Habsy

Yes, I'm kidding people.
Now before everyone jumps on me about a coach's thread I want to make it clear that I was very against hiring this guy again in the first place. I would have much preferred Groulx as our Head Coach.

I don't think MT is the coach for the Habs and this is not based on one crappy game. IMO MT needs strong talent to implement his system and the Habs are simply not there yet. MT had some great players in Pittsburgh and that translated to success, with the Habs he has to make good, not great, players play above their heads. This is not just a coaching problem but an organizational one. The reason we keep seeing the same issues regardless of coach are the players and the fit they have with the coach.

All coaches will say they can coach anyone, we all know that isn't necessarily true. Surely this is why Bou and Army are here, to facilitate an understanding in the locker room between staff and talent but I question whether MT is the man for the job. The Habs won't be a contender for another 2-3 years, sorry to burst anyone's bubble. I think they should have selected a solid coach with new ideas to grow the team with, I just don't see MT as that guy.

Is MT that guy or is he a stop gap while they groom Lefebvre for the job?

My first requirement for Habs head coach...

Would he have been hired by any other team as a head coach in the NHL? Or even in the AHL?

My second, would he have been a legit candidate to coach here if he wasn't French?

The answers are, just like when Jacques Martin was hired, glaringly obvious.

I honestly don't expect much from this team & MT this year. The core of last year's 15th place team is still here, and we've only added depth players. If they can come close to fighting for a playoff spot (ie. Price doesn't get injured & plays at his best all year), that would have been gross over-achievement and it'll be fun while it lasts, although another top-5 pick would always be enjoyable. And if that's the case, MT should get some props.

I'll give MT a chance, though. They've hired him, I don't agree with it at all, so he'll probably be here for at least two years. Let's see what he can do.

I'm with giving him a fair shot....I've listened to every press conference this past week after each practice and I like the approach he has to building the team.

He emphasizes a lot of communication and accountability

I'm with DK. I will give him a fair shot. Even though I don't like him, I hope he proves me wrong.

I see Habsy's point. We simply do not have the roster to be a contender and as a result, Therrien's system won't win us any more games than anyone else. That said, last night's loss was on the coach. The players looked sloppy and out of synch. Lines were miscommunicating signals all night. Why was this not seen in practice or inter squad games?

I don't expect to be in the playoffs this year, but some of the fundamentals do need improvement or it might be a very long season.

Last nights loss was about execution which falls on the players, lets be fair, this was the first game and players didn't have timing or execution right.

I think we should wait till the team has had a chance to get in shape and learn the system

He doesn't come across as the sharpest tool in the shed. Last night when the team was struggling and taking all those penalties he looked a little overwhelmed on the bench.

That sort of stuff is difficult to fix in low-tempo, no pressure situations like practices. Especially when they've only had a week to practice as a team. They'll progressively get better with more practices and more repetition in real games.

Listening to RDS's Antichambre, if you didn't know any better (And it's fair to say that most who do watch that show clearly don't) you'd believe that he's the reason why the Penguins won the Cup and that Dan Bylsma was just there to claim the credit.

I'm sure there's a lot of truth to the rumors Bergevin wanted Joel Quenneville - he just was not available. If memory serves, Quenneville's on the last year of his deal with the Hawks....

I didn't see anything different in the way they played last night vs. how they've played for the last three coaches. It's one game, I'll give him time...but I don't expect much to change.

I don't blame MT for last night, that was rusty crappy hockey. I just don't think he will be successful with this cast of characters.

I'm not sure vintage Bowman would make a difference with this sorry cast.

I think he deserves a fair shake, we complain about something for every coach.

I understand we can look at the past and judge him but I think he's changed a lot and if we're going through a youh movement wouldn't mind having the guy who was there to break Crosby, Malkin and steal into the league so he knows how to manage young players
