Rumours, Innuendos and Flat out B.S.: 2014 - 2015 NHL Season

The Leafs were the only NHL team to crack the Forbes top-50 most valuable sports franchises in the world, ranking #26 - that's the only thing that matters at days end.

I agree that the Leafs are the most valuable franchise in the NHL. Not much doubt about that.

As for Forbes though, its been shown time and time again that their sports team valuations are shit.

The most valuable NHL team is on par with the Milwaukee Bucks. Hockey has a way to go.

The Milwaukee Bucks sold for nearly double what Forbes estimated they were worth one year ago.

The estimates are crap.

Every time these business men are given the real books (And not the estimates forbes is forced to use because 95% of teams are not public companies forced to published by the SEC or Canadian Equivalent), the actual sale prices and recent Forbes Estimates are almost always dramatically different

Heard the Clippers were not even on the list....are they not rumoured to be sold for $2b ?

They already do

Nope, in 2013 the Habs were the cheapest NHL tickets of all Canadian teams except for Ottawa. The Leafs were the most expensive by a country mile. If you continually rip your fans off year after year... of coarse your team will be most valuable. Its pretty simple math.

estimated value is never near what market value is...these teams would most likely fetch more that what Forbes has them listed at.

so the clippers is a perfect example of that

Yep. Supply and Demand. In the US, these leagues are super private clubs (30 or so members) for insanely wealthy boys. There's enough Mark Cubans in the US to drive prices much higher than book value.

It's a little different in Canada where pro teams tend to get absorbed by media and other related corporations (Rogers, Bell, etc)

I find that hard to belive.

I do too. Maybe they offered the single cheapest ticket of any Canadian team but their average ticket was definitely amongst the highest in the entire NHL, not just Canada.

Not to mention their beer prices. I'm waiting for the service fee to use the washroom. I'm sure it will come eventually. Pay as you go as they say.

You appear to be correct regarding average ticket price for Canadian teams. Does Geoffrey realize he's probably leaving money on the table?

Gotta like how the Flames and Oilers (35.69%) upped the prices so much. Must be because of all the success they have had.
