GDT: Leafs vs. Smurfs - Round 790 - 7:00 PM - Sports Net

This is ****ed up, Bernier is the man and will be the man unless he struggles mightily. It should be a 80-20 split with Reims after the way Bernier performed last year.

Could have said the same thing about Reimer with the way he preformed in 2012-13. But, no, they took the job away after one bad game.

They hardly benched him after one bad game....Bernier & Reimer were splitting duties from day 1, with whoever played best being given the reigns.

Bernier won the job, and became the starter.

The only ones that trot out this "Reimer got screwed" narrative are Reimer fanboys who can't accept he lost the competition, or the small handful of people who didn't like the trade and are still trying to make excuses as to why it shouldn't have happened, even after Bernier played lights out.

beleafer is right.

reimer had just as good a year in 12-13 as bernier did last year, and it didn't make him the automatic permanent starter the next year.

Bernier isn't the automatic permanent starter. If unlike last year, Reimer outplays him he should play.

But one bad game doesn't erase what happened last year.

Agreed.

We should be more than happy to hand the reigns to Reimer if/when he's playing better.

That's the benefit of having two really f*cking good goalies.

Reimer had his chance to compete with Bernier last year and he completely shit the bed at one point. This is Bernier's team and Reims is rightfully the back up. What Reimer or Bernier did previous to last year is not relevant because both of them had the opportunity to become the team #1 goalie last yearand Reimer ****ed it up hard and Bernier was a top 5 goalie in the league.

Nah, that's silly.

If Reimer plays like Bernier did last year, and Bernier plays like Reimer did......there's no good reason James shouldn't be handed the reigns.

Bernier earned the right to start the year as our #1....2013-14 though didn't earn him the right to hold that title indefinitely.

Reimer had his chance to step up and instead noisily shit himself. His cheering section simply has to accept that truth.

Thank you this is what I've been saying, although I probably didn't articualte it the best way and my point probably got misconstrued.

I'm not denying that riemer hasn't choked when it's mattered the most, he has done that several times now which is concerning. That Being said, he had a solid year in 12-13 and in the offseason the leafs went out and gave up assets to land bernier and let's be clear here imo they were looking to bring him as the instant starter right off the bad despite what was said on the record.

Bottom line is this- bernier put up very similar numbers last year that riemer did the previous year yet everyone here is clamouring he has the top job, so why is he owed a chance yet riemer should be in the back seat... This is what I mean that Theres an aura of entitlement on this team.

The reimer fanboys are still arguing for their fan favourite. Why don't we just cheer for both ? We got 2 awesome goalies.

I like both goalies for different reasons I just think both should be given an equal shot.

The "equal shot" is your opinion, not fact. And I have no idea where you stand. You're constantly all over the place then back tracking what you say when people prove you wrong.

I don't even understand this combination of words.

Poorly phrased or not as I rushed on a smartphone, even you should be able to understand it.

But since you seem to lack the ability to infer, I will rephrase.

I was advised that to determine if a stat is important, one must just know if it is predictive of success. You also stated use your own logic and critical thinking. Therefore, I asked if I can just use logic to determine how quality an opponent might be to determine QoC when lining up against said player in the defensive zone. That would help me determine sheltered minutes, sheltered competition correct?

One simply by rote cannot say, well that is a "first line" so that has to be high quality. One must look at the individual player you line up against each and every shift n'est ce pas? When Travis Moen played on our first line at times, that certainly could not be said to be high quality competition. Hell one could argue that lining up in the defensive zone against him means one is being sheltered.

As an aside, who determines QoC? Is it the individual who is relying on the stat or are you just using someone else's definition of QoC?

At least with save percentage, shooting percentage etc, there are actual numbers to use. QofC seems to be a nerd creation that is subject to a hell of a lot of interpretation as to what constitutes QoC.

Exactly it's my opinion on the matter, never said it was fact but somehow your choosing to believe otherwise. I have said countless times where I stand on this which is I feel both guys should be alternated until one gets on a roll, and I have also said there's a sick sense of entitlement with this team and that it wouldn't shock me that bernier gets the nod on Saturday.

You're mistaking me for an advanced stat geek. I am not.
