OT: American Politics

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

You are in the military - any reason not to do both?
Militarily or politically?

Militarily,no. Canada could manage both, and in reality our planes are so bad these days that our contribution is minimal. Training could be amped up from just special forces now to a half brigade group without too much trouble. This intervention is nothing compared to Afghanistan.

Politically, historically, no westerner intervention in the middle east has ended well. So yes, that would be a reason canada cannot do both, according to the LPC.

I think Mulcairs issue was thinking that the NDP actually made inroads in Quebec. They didn't...it was just a blip on the radar because Quebec is Candyland when it comes to politics. All over the map.

yep, they tend to vote strategically every time. don't care about the colour of the jersey.

Or the quality of the candidates.

Ie, last year people getting elected that never stepped foot in the riding.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

I keep on hearing about Justin's "team". Other than Ralph Goodale, I don't see anyone that has track record I can get behind.

Andrew Leslie, Chrystia Freeland, Bill Blair, Scott Brison, Goodale, John McCallum, David McGuinty, Dominic LeBlanc. That's off the top of my head, I'm sure I missed some.

I'd be comfortable with all of them as cabinet ministers. Compare that to a potential NDP or Con cabinet...

Edit: Also Marc Garneau, Stephane Dion (?)

Garneau if trudeau is feeling generous.

Edit, damn beat me to it.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

I'm really curious how about how loyal the NDP supporters are to the "anyone but Harper" cause. I'm sure they were smug about this back when this was a 3 way race but who knows how loyal they will be to that when they see their party drop to 3rd place. I think the riding I'm in, Halifax West will be an interesting bell weather on that front. The Riding went NDP back in 1997, but has been Liberal since 2000. However it almost went NDP in 2011. If these people cared about getting rid of Harper they probably should jump towards the Liberals, but on the other hand they can still campaign for a Liberal Riding with little risk it will go to the Conservatives. Which way will they swing.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

308 has the liberals winning the most seats for the first time since this campaign began, LPC 127 CPC 124 NDP 85.

Really really need that ndp vote to collapse already, especially in Ontario and split 2:1 for the liberals.

I still think it's be a CPC minority, but I'm starting to have doubts. That shift to the liberals in southern Ontario appears to be real. And, if some of the not-friendly-to-liberals francophone suburbs around Montreal also start to go red, as has been speculated by some pundits, then we could be in for a helluva shock.

Thats a list of complete duds. Garneau, Goodale and Brison are the only ones of quality.

Yeah, they certainly don't stack up to quality ministerial material like Pierre Poilievre, Rona Ambrose, Julian Fantino & Chris Alexander, that's for sure.

The House Republicans were set to hold a vote yesterday on the new Speaker of the House. Majority leader McCarthy was expected to be voted in but he suddenly dropped out of the race saying he did not have a path to victory. Once again the Tea Party wing of the House was causing problems.

Republicans are essentially begging Paul Ryan to run now. He has said no many times but now be forced into taking the position.

Unreal.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Ambrose and Alexander are great ministers. I'm not sure what dirt you feel like you have on them...

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

How are McGuinty and Leblanc less talented than Amrose/Alexander? They have been in politics for a long time..both lawyers.

Andrew Leslie was courted by the conservatives to run for them, that's a pretty good endorsement.

The man is a former general, he was the highest guy in the Canadian army, was considered to run the entire military, wrote the report on how to get the most bang for your buck and cut the fat from the military, and literally lead men into combat.

A dud? You're a funny one.

That party has become such a joke. The few with brains are shouted down by the utterly insane.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Liberals look like their picking up Ajax so say goodbye to your love corksens.

People, other than conservatives partisans think he's done a terrible job on this file.

Because honestly, conservative partisans think Julian fantino was excellent veterans affairs minister.
