Rumours, Innuendos and Flat out B.S.: 2021-22 Edition

Re: Rumours, Innuendos and Flat out B.S.: 2016-17 Edition

Let get the conversation headed in a different direction!!

NYR/Habs talking to CHI re: Anisimov, Duchene to Hawks?
July 14, 2017, 12:34 PM ET [85 Comments]

Eklund

Start here today. As is often true regarding many Fridays in July, there is a very discernible pick up in action in the Rumor Mill today...

Anisimov?

The word is out that the Hawks will entertain offers, and are entertaining discussions at least with the NY Rangers and Montreal Canadiens regarding Anisimov...Both teams have a big weaknesses that could be filled by Anisimov and the question remains....why would the Hawks move Anisimov?

The rumor is the Hawks may have something going with Colorado regarding Duchene but they need to not only clear space but get a draft pick that Colorado wants...

Re: Rumours, Innuendos and Flat out B.S.: 2016-17 Edition

Toews' stats were nowhere near 10.5 M when he signed 2 years ago.....

Even 8 mil is a stretch....but do you let him walk and end up without a top C ? I guess Stan had no choice but to pony-up the cash...
If you look at some comparable, let's say Bergeron (7), Stastny (7), O'Reilly (7.5), Kesler (7), 8M is not really a stretch. Also Bergeron is quite a bargain at that price.

Re: Rumours, Innuendos and Flat out B.S.: 2016-17 Edition

I don't mind Toews either, i mean this organization struggle to find a half decent center for age. He is probably overpaid about 2 mil but anyway we have to pretty much overpay any impact player(we actually overpaid bunch of no impact players, ask Shaw, Emelin!!), i mean look at Price contract. Towes has 6 more years left at 10.5 avg and he is 29 and can give us between 55 to 65 points in next 4-5 years at least.

The only reason i don't see this happen is we have already two pretty long contract/amount with Weber and Price and Max will be the next so we need to move Weber contract before getting engaged to another pretty long term deal with such an amount.

I don't think anyone would claim that Stastny earns his $7m. The rest of those guys I take over Toews.

If Toews was a FA and we signed him to $7m I'd be happy. I'd think it was more than he's worth, but we'd have a good two way #1 centre.

Really?? For the same salary you would take them over Toews??? The only one who's close is Bergeron but even then I would prefer Toews.

I meant at all of their current salaries.

At even money... I think he's in that group sans Stastny.

Chicago is not trading their captain, there'll be a mutiny.

At this point I'd be happy with Stastny. Not that I really think he's awesome but he's better than what we have down the middle.

I'd rather have Bryan Little

Of course, I was making an argument for saying that his realistic salary would probably be around $8M. I think he's a solid notch above O'Reilly and Kesler and a small one over Bergeron. Stastny is also the only guy on that group who went to free agency. If Toews would be FA, he's probably command close to 8.5-9.

I dunno... offensively he's not a step above any of them. And those guys are all defensive beasts too.

No GM would of let him walk . They won 3 cups and have been one of best teams in history over a 6 year stretch . You have no choice to keep your stars but Stan knows those contracts were going to be a bitch at some point.

He is easily an 8-8.5 mil player when clowns are making 6 mil and Marleau is making 6.5 almost 10 years older .

The problem is the cap has been flat the last 4 years , teams were expecting an 85 mil cap by now which would of made the contracts look better .

Like I said the next lockout will be over term and trade clauses , and if contracts now were 4-5 years no one makes a big deal over these contracts .

Bergeron is the only one on that list even at his advanced age I take over JT . 3 cups got him and Kane 2-3 mil in extra money .

Re: Rumours, Innuendos and Flat out B.S.: 2016-17 Edition

There won't be any room for those guys when we acquire Tavares later this summer.

Re: Rumours, Innuendos and Flat out B.S.: 2016-17 Edition

I'm starting to think that this coaching staff and management are pinning hopes that Plekanec will be better next year as he's a pending UFA

KeslerI over Toews? Seriously?

Re: Rumours, Innuendos and Flat out B.S.: 2016-17 Edition

Thats a silly hope.

The idea that a FA season makes a player better just isn't true. Pretty much 1/2 of all players do worse than their career average in a contract year and 1/2 do better. There is no correlation to increased performance in contract years, its another one of those myths, just like clutch.
