Scored 20 goals one year and was on pace for another 20 last year before being traded. Free asset with known chemistry with one of our guy. If he does well he can get packaged in a deal for a better guy. No risk potential reward bet.

Not worried either but I don't mind loading up on young guys. Ideally I'd trade Shaw and Byron for some assets and replace them with younger ones. I like both but they won't be part of our future.
No cap hell whatsoever .
They will slot their 3 kiddie stud corp with JT and the rest of their core under cap friendly deals .
Plus they have cap coming off the books in 1-2 years and Horton`s 5.25 LTIR to use to go over the cap .
What they wont be able to do is the stupidity we do ....sign clowns like Alzner to dumb contracts
As long as they keep drafting/developing well and use cheap 1 year UFA rentals they will be fine for 3-4 years until they have to review contracts of Freddy, Kadri ,and Reilly among others .

It might impair their ability to improve their defense but that's about it. They're in good shape cap wise.

If Dermot develops into a nice top 4 thats a huge bonus.
Plus guys like Brown can be sacrificed for D help .
They are like the Pens ...elite top 9 and hope an adequate D can hold its own .

It doesn't require an "expert" to open up capfriendly and do basic math.
The experts have been talking about how it was going to be necessary to trade 1 of the "big 3" since we've had a big 3. Such is life in Toronto.
The difficulty won't be in keeping the kids, it will be in making any external additions to the lineup from here on in. Our blueline needs to get better organically. Luckily we have a strong enough prospect group where there is a legit chance of it actually happening.

If it's true that MB didn't take a chance on Duclair for around what Columbus offered but he took a chance on Matthew Peca for 2 years at 1.3M per season I have no clue what to make of this idiot.

Duclair’s agent said CBJ were only team offering a oneway deal, everyone else offered two way deals.

We could have easily offered a one way deal, it's not like we can't afford it or need the cap space. Clearly we were not interested.

Exactly. We have Byron Froese on the books one way for 650K which is a complete waste of cap space but we won’t take a chance on a 23 year old who scored 20 goals as a rookie? And he did it with Domi?
You can’t be as desperate for talent as we are and ignore when it comes along because of risk.
He gave Hemsky 1M last year. Ales fuggin Hemsky...but he won’t take a flyer on Duclair. Personally I think he wanted him and figured he’d get him to come crawling on a one way offer and then got totally screwed when he lost him to Columbus.
I’m starting to understand this is the MB way. Squeeze the talent and indulge the plugs.
You, along with everyone else will have to accept MB sucks. He doesn't just suck at one thing. He sucks at everything. Now you can understand why we are in this position.
