2024 Draft

I suppose it depends how they want to extend the RFAs (including Jarvis) and which UFAs they hope to keep.

They have 27M to play with. There are 5 notable UFAs with cap hits at ~21M, the core RFAs and a bunch of support players.

Maybe they walk away from some of those UFAs.
Canes will walk away from some players , they wont overpay to retain their UFA`s

So we should draft Catton, right? 😀
I'd say we should do proper due-diligence and get intel on the extent of the injuries for any player we may be considering. All we as armchair analysts know at this point is that Demidov played all year but ended on crutches missing playoff games, Lindstrom played only 32 out of 68 reg season games and missed playoff games due to wrist and then back issues, and Catton played 68 out of 68 games and all playoff games and has opted out of the U18's to heal from some nagging hip injury. One is not like the others IMO ☝️ :D .

Haven't seen any updates or more concrete information. My assumption is that it's relatively minor. Otherwise they would've opted for surgery. Maybe a hip pointer/strain. Having said that, if indeed he had this issue during the season as per below, he may have had even better production.

Hopefully you are correct. I think they will take a wait and see approach given his age.

Yeah, the fact he didn't miss a shift all year speaks volumes to me. Especially considering he was playing close to 30 min/game. So, I think it's safe to say it isn't anything major. The kid has been a workhorse, literally carrying his team on his back all year. I think he deserves a well-earned rest so missing the U18's doesn't alarm me personally.

I think i want Demidov for Chicago, but i dont assume we'll be picking top 2. Any advice on who is next best option?
If Demidov is taken or your team doesn't want to draft a Russian that high...if I was a Hawks fan, I'd be prioritizing a winger for Bedard 1st and a RD 2nd. So having said that...I'd either covet RD's Parekh or Levshunov at your actual pick, that if your scouts think those 2 are top-3 talents (I think Parekh may be, not totally sure about the Russian).

But if it was me, what I would probably do is trade down for either Eiserman, Ignila, Helenius (who can play wing), Greentree, Connelly (if not dissuaded by rumored off-ice issues he's the highest offensive upside in this group), or RD Yakemchuk (I love this player).

Hawks need everything and anything with star potential

Take the BPA. They have another pick at 20. Who knows? Maybe they’ll get Lego Nazi with the apparent bowel incontinence issues.

I hate to see a kid playing through hip problems. Hopefully the medical staff made the correct call.

I agree. I see it kinda like this personally.

Franchise Potential
Celebrini

Superstar Potential
Catton
Parekh
Demidov

Big Star Potential
Eiserman
Dickinson
Bium
Connelly
Silayev
Yakemchuck

Star Potential
Levshunov
Helenius
Iginla
Lindstrom
Greentree

Not saying this is how it WILL play out. Just my assessment. So what I meant was if they aren't as blown away by anyone after Celebrini...maybe they can pick for need somewhat lower by trading down and also add a significant asset in the swap.
