OT: American Politics

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Found you a girl, Corky:

link
Name: Ginny Movat
Age: 25

Riding: Ottawa-Vanier

Her issues: Lower taxes, tough-on-crime measures

“Prime Ministers only last so long, but I think (Stephen Harper) has a lot left in him and a lot left he can do for the country.”

Ginny Movat, 25, is the opposite of an undecided voter. She’s only known a Harper-led Canada, and that, she says, is a good thing.

The Conservative-minded consultant and lobbyist says she believes that many Canadians will vote with her on Oct. 19.

“We represent a wide cross-section of views,” she says. “I think, in elections, the strongest voices are people who carry a lot of power in this country in the urban centres, in the media, and they are not necessarily in touch with what the average Canadian is feeling.”

The average Canadian, she says, is “sympathetic to Stephen Harper’s message.”

She's perfect for you.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

308.com (the gospel) has him losing in Ajax, so he's more or less irrelevant now.

The conservatives have had one really good minister, but he's dead now.

May he rest in peace.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

4 new polls today, 3 have the LPC ahead and the other has them 2 points back.

NDP support continues to hemorrhage. Mulcair is done. Whoever wins, the LPC or CPC will be able to bully the leaderless ndp for a good year or two.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Was Baird not in charge of defence when the F-35 debacle was pushed through and is Kenney no responsible for the horrific **** up known as the TFW program?

Yup.

But that's the best the conservatives can do at the moment.

See, this is what happens when the media manufactures a "scandal". The TWF was a nothing issue. It's a huge government program, and like most, some people are going to find a way to abuse it. That's not Kenney's fault.

The F-35 issue also isn't Bairds to wear. The Liberals bought into it, he continued to follow the advise of military advisors.

Even then you are painting two ministers tenure with their potentially worst moment. Kind of lame.

It really wasn't.

He was the minister over seeing the portfolio when the changes were made...the buck stops at him, no?

LOL, the Liberals did it first.

Baird could have tapped out, or not sole sourced it at the minimum. Not disclosing costs to Parliament was a nice touch as well. You seem to be really willing to pass blame on to others for things that occurred under both ministers. Sure, the Liberals signed on to an international agreement to help develop a fight jet....not a terrible idea. By the time the development started to go off the rails, we had lots of time to pull out.

Even then you are painting two ministers tenure with their potentially worst moment. Kind of lame.

We're pointing out that the two biggest single programs under either minister's guidance were tire fires. I mean, this is more or less the same thing as being impressed by a house because the counters and appliances are nice, while the roof is on fire.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Trudeau is a goddamn muppet. Governments always prioritize refugee acceptance and resettlement according to a triage system where vulnerable groups are put at the top of the list.

Still doesn't explain why the PMO was interfering with the process when it had already been taken care of.

Was the PMO in a better position to identify the most at risk or was there another reason for them to get involved?

There was a memo from US intelligence suggesting UN screened refugees posed a risk. Harper stopped the income process, and the PMO ordered an audit.

There was no personal vetting of families by Harper for some photo op.

It's nonsense.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

The only reason this is even an issue is because the Muslim lovers out there have an aversion to Christians receiving preferential treatment this time around due to vulnerability concerns.

You know, like the Bosniak/Albanian/Kosovar Muslims received during the Yugoslav Wars in the 1990s when they were the at-risk demographic.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

The refugee crisis is basically a more substantive, left wing version of the niqab issue. Should be a relatively nothing issue in a federal election imo.

Pretty much. It takes harper off message and forces him to play defense.

Is it that much if an issue? Meh. But as far as strategy goes, it's a good one.

Harper opened the door to this kind of shit with the nothing niqab issue....I have zero sympathy for him if Justin is able to bash him over the head with a nothing refugee issue and rides it into the PMO.
