How did TBay “tank properly” - they tanked due to sheer incompetence, and Stevie Y has missed the playoffs 50% of his time as GM and he was handed an elite C and Dman on day 1 of his job as rookie GM

There was no master plan to get Stamkos and Hedman - it was luck overcoming sheer incompetence

They walked a fine line on the Stamkos contract. It turned out OK for them, but it could have gone sideways.
That said, they didn’t make any really bad trades with major pieces of their roster. Not yet.

Getting top 3 picks always has some luck involved....but for years Habs did everything to try and make playoffs, when they should have just thrown the towel instead of finishing 7-8th....

If mouth-breathing slaphead Dorion gets a decent return for Karlsson, he will have materially demonstrated he’s a better asset manager than Copernicus.

Believe it or not TBay tried very hard to make the playoffs the years they landed both Stamkos & Drouin - the teams went spiraling out of control. The Stamkos year was the start of infighting between owners & Drouin year was a players mutiny vs Scarface

Not remotely close.
He's possibly going to lose a potential top three pick in the 2019 draft, maybe even Hughes.
On top of that he looked completely foolish in the Hoffman deal

I wouldn't credit Dorion too much with the return he gets for Karlsson.
We're talking about one of the best players in the league, any bobo can get a good return
