Have a good look at the play MacKinnon makes to tie the game at 1-1. Why don't they teach players to be patient like this with the puck? Most players in this situation probably take the low percentage shot in desperation instead of holding on for the pass.
Landeskog almost missed it, even he was fooled by the pass.

In this era of really good goaltenders, you need to make those extra plays to score, something our coach hasn't figured out yet.
Had he missed the pass he would have been told to shoot the puck. Coaches try to teach kids not to overpass but sometimes it makes nice plays like this.

Imagine if this happened a few years back. Therrien's face would be beet red trying not to throw Subban under the bus in front of the reporters.
Now in today's game , defensemen participate in offensive rushes with so much regularity this will not be overly questioned. Now if it was game 7...

Although that little skate Subban took behind the net after the rush and his shot will probably not win him brownie points with the coach tonight. Anyway I dont think he catches up to the play even if he turned around immediately after taking his shot.

He really was. It's painful that despite the mockery that's where the NHl was headed. Now Bergevin has built a team that would have been better in 2002.
