GDT - 7th Heaven Leafs @ DAL | 8pm EST

number17

Mod Squad
The last time the Leafs won 7 in a row was in 2003, so we could be on the best streak we've been on in 10 years with a W tonight.

The thing with these streaks is, sometimes you manage to beat what is deemed a tough opponent, but then fall to a team you think you can easily beat ... tonight might be one of those nights.

Dallas has gone 2-7-1 over past 10 games, and on paper it's a team we can beat. Statistically, after the hot start, Dallas is only 1 game above .500 after 50 games, and sits on the outside looking in the playoff picture in the West.

Realistically though, Dallas still has more weapons than they need if they are to end our streak tonight. First of all, Seguin (no I don't expect any "Thank you Kessel" chant tonight) has put together a breakout season, basically going PPG as the 1st line center in Dallas, and leading the team in G, A and Pts. Him and Benn form one of the best dynamic duo in the league. Holland, or whoever our checking line center is tonight, has got their work cut out for them.

And that is CRITICAL work to tonight's 2 points, because if you can shut down Seguin + Benn, you shut down Dallas. Dallas has no secondary offense, with Cole sitting on 3rd in team scoring with under .500 PPG pace.

Gonchar, who's finally playing like his age, is unfortunately also their best defenseman. Lehtonen and his .915SV% is also the only goalie they have over .900 SV%.

If we play our game like we did the past few games, and continue to use our speed and offense and jump to an early lead, we CAN indeed extent out win streak to 7 games. Far too many times we've seen this team fall flat on our face with those chances though ... so let's hope tonight is another step we build our team confidence.

Go Leafs Go!!!

Dallas is 2-7-1 in last 10 games but are coming off a big 4-0 win over Minny so expect them to be hungry; hopefully we pull out the 4-3 win

Re: GDT - 7th Heaven Leafs @ DAL | 9pm EST

That's a pretty hurtin' group of defensemen they've got, and less-than stellar numbers from their goaltending. Hopefully our top offensive guys can feast on them a bit.

I'll also be very happy if we can finish the game without that little shit Seguin getting any points.

Geez, that's the truth. Their 3rd leading scorer would be tied for 7th on the Leafs (with Cody Franson). So, I'd expect that Seguin and Benn will get a steady diet of Phaneuf/Gunnarsson tonight.

@jonasTSN1050 Jonathan Bernier back in goal tonight in Dallas.

I never like it when the Leafs face Lindy Ruff coached teams. Hopefully they keep the streak going. Assuming it's Bernie in net?

Has to be. We're playing in Reimer's home-town on Saturday, so you'd have to think he gets that game.

Re: GDT - 7th Heaven Leafs @ DAL | 9pm EST

Bernier is currently 5th in the NHL in shots faced, and 4th in save %......no goalie has faced more shots and posted a higher sv%.

how many shots do the leafs give up?

hasnt he been splitting time for the most part?

a lot

Bernier's faced on average 35 shots per 60 minutes, this year.

hasnt he been splitting time for the most part?

He was splitting time to start the year, but of late has been played more as a #1....on the year he's started 60% of Leafs games. (by comparison, a true #1 like Price has started 80% of Habs games)

Re: GDT - 7th Heaven Leafs @ DAL | 9pm EST

Bernier has delivered a top 5 starter performance so far for us, couldn't ask for more really. Hopefully he can keep it going tonight.

Ahhh. So shots per game. Got it.

Re: GDT - 7th Heaven Leafs @ DAL | 9pm EST

The game starts at 8 pm not 9 ... at least according to NHL.com

Thanks man.

As for Clarkson, no kidding ourselves, we are a better team if our 3rd line is Clarkson - Holland - Kulemin instead of whatever we have tonight... The Clarkson - Holland - Kulemin line was very good in the cycle game and keeping puck possession, and gives the leafs a different weapon than just counter attack / speed line, which is what out first and second lines are now.

At this point in the road trip, are the Leafs better-used to the time shift, or are they feeling the fatigue of travelling in the West? That, and how they contain Seguin are going to go a long way in deciding the outcome. As rough as things have been for Dallas lately it could still easily come down to Bernier stealing one for us. Holland's line, assuming they are checking Seguin's, could end up being more important that what Kessel does tonight.

Whatever, just win baby...love hearing the mediots gets angrier with every two points.
