GDT NOV 30: TOR @ Oil Change, 9pm TSN

Looks like you can now move this game into "must win" territory for the Leafs.

Cam Talbot has been placed on injured reserve, which leaves Laurent Brossoit and his 0.881 SV% in goal for Edmonton tonight.

From yesterday's practice, these appear to be Babcock's re-jigged line combinations for tonight's game:

Zach Hyman - Auston Matthews - Mitch Marner
James van Riemsdyk - Nazem Kadri - Leo Komarov
Patrick Marleau - Tyler Bozak - Connor Brown
Matt Martin - Dominic Moore - William Nylander

Morgan Rielly - Ron Hainsey
Jake Gardiner - Nikita Zaitsev
Andreas Borgman - Roman Polak

Would really suck to lose to Oil Change given the way they are playing, and the fact that Talbot will be out.

Hopefully the effort and consistency from the Calgary game carry over.

Wonder how long until Lucic and Maroon are chasing after Naz...

I'm really looking forward to this game. That's mostly because I want to see how these lines perform. In particular, protecting the defensive black hole dog ****er with Brown and Marleau.

My guess is that this backup either lets in a boatload or finds his inner Ken Dryden and stones the Leafs.

A fun storyline might be them going all mental over Kadri. Could open up some space for JVR.

Who breaks out with the hatty first -- Nylander or Marner?

It's just so funny the lineup shenanigans babcock has to pull just to cover the most obvious hole - bozak.

Just bite the bullet mikey and drop bozak down to the 4th line - but without dragging another good player like jvr or marner or nylander down there to babysit him.

No Matthews at the Leaf morning skate today, but everyone else appears to be there.

Hopefully not a sign that he's re-aggravated his "upper-body injury".

I still don't think he has been quite right since his return. Hopefully this isn't a recurring, nagging problem.

Willy on the 4th line. Of course.

Other than his obsession with a couple of toys, this bullshit is the only thing that drives me nuts about Babs. What in the world is Willy expected to do with Moore and Martin to earn his way back up? And if it’s just a matter of waiting for someone else to earn a demotion, why isn’t Bozak already on the 4th line and chained there for good?

Looks like no line changes after all:

Legend:

Letter Grades = Quality of Competition measured by opponents' time on ice, Converted into Letter Grades for simplicity
p60 = points per 60 minutes
CF% = Corsi For Percentage (i.e. shot attempts for percentage)
xGF% = Expected Goals For Percentage (i.e. shot attempt percentage adjusted for shot quality) - this stat is already adjusted for zone deployment and game score
In Brackets = CF% and xGF% relative to team
dsv% = difference between save percentage and expected save percentage

Ya, when you factor in QoC I don't think being on the 4th line is actually that big a punishment. Both Willy and Mitch have had some pretty good chances playing there.

Per Mirtle:

Babcock says Matthews has a cold. He'll play.

I've been wondering, what with flu season...every time I see a player that doesn't look right I think he might have the flu. I know McDavid was hit hard, probably rolled through Edmonton's team...could even have some small bearing on their play.

I was thinking maybe Nylander too...

Have been looking forward to this game since seeing the schedule. Hoping Matthews has a break out game. Even with the Oilers struggles, should be fun to see us go up against another young team and McDavid.

i was mocking the oilers

they have won 2 in a row and have not won 3 in a row all year

Willy is going to have a field day with the Oilers 4th line. They won't be able to contain him

You can't have a field day against anyone when you're playing with Moore and Martin, and probably have Polak to deal with behind you.

What do you expect him to do exactly? Have a hat trick, with Martin setting them all up?
