the difference is, the black boy said something about a white president you love whereas the white boy said something about the black president you hate

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

There's a significant difference between being aware that the song exists, and getting random lyrical references to it.

Like I said... 1 album in 30 years. If you aren't into the genre, and under the age of 45, their music has had minimal impact on you.

well "not into the genre" when you're talking about moderately heavy classic rock is not exactly a big group when you're talking about Canadian hockey fans.

the "1 album in 30 years" thing breaks down when you think about The Beatles, or Jimi Hendrix. And don't tell me they haven't had an impact on anyone who "isnt into the genre and is under the age of 45"

Internet

The question isn't how many people have heard, or heard of the song...but how many people are big enough Who fans to have gotten that reference....on the internet...which is typically populated by younger people. Most of whom (and most of the population of this board) weren't alive when The Who has actually making studio albums regularly.

Every once in a while I decide to bang my head against the wall that is your obtuseness, so here goes.

"Our teacher doesn't like black students"

"If our teacher becomes our teacher in september, again, I will be either be dead or in jail by this time next year."

Really, you don't see the different implications and severity behind this? How one is a broad opinion and the other one has some specific, violent, dangerous implications?

Another absurd over-the-top reaction from the resident Habs fan neo-con troll. Yes, of course, Faux News' doctoring of news reports on a daily basis, along with the phone-tapping scandals should never be stopped. Don't change the constitution to reign in the influence of big money special interest. Let us be ruled exclusively by how badly we can be used by the influence of money entirely. That's the wiser course, of course, for morons like you.

Ohh...Hab fan. Wow, is that the best your clown mind can come up with? Perhaps you should swig a few 12 pacsks and dance for us.

The story is very real and it's another ridiculous attempt to the Moron in Chief and henchman to limit the influence of those who wont hang off his balls. It wont happen.

625 million rounds for civilian authorities? Expecting an alien invasion? Rat infestation? Shoot every illegal Mexican 50,000 times? Maybe the are going to pass out .40 cal rounds along with food stamps......

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office is getting an "indefinite delivery" of an "indefinite quantity" of .40 caliber ammunition from defense contractor ATK.

U.S. agents will receive a maximum of 450 million rounds over five years, according to a press release on the deal.

The high performance HST bullets are designed for law enforcement and ATK says they offer "optimum penetration for terminal performance."

This refers to the the bullet's hollow-point tip that passes through barriers and expands for a bigger impact without the rest of the bullet getting warped out of shape: "this bullet holds its jacket in the toughest conditions."

*We've also learned that the Department has an open bid for a stockpile of rifle ammo. Listed on the federal business opportunities network, they're looking for up to 175 million rounds of .223 caliber ammo to be exact. The .223 is almost exactly the same round used by NATO forces, the 5.56 x 45mm.

i again reject the charge that this was a specific, violent threat to hopeychange. this was a stupid hick trying to curry favour with an audience by making a "joke" that wasn't very funny. what that punk west did was to PURPOSELY try to incite racial tension by making specific, targeted charges against the president at the time. what he did was worse, because it had malicious intent behind it, it was inflammatory, and he did it on purpose.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

It's kind of like how everyone knows Bohemian Rhapsody, or the opening to Baba O'Reilly, or War Pigs.
Or Beethoven's 4th.
Or Greensleeves.

I can see someone missing the reference, don't get me wrong, but don't bother with that, "that's old people music...they don't get how unimportant it is...," bs.
Or go ahead and bother, but you're only convincing yourself.

Or maybe to replace the ammunition they currently have? Cause it has an expiry date and needs to be replaced?

so contradictory.

the democrats support reforming electoral funding laws so as to decrease outsider influence over politics, and this is somehow an attempt by the party to consolidate power? that doesn't make any sense. any funding restrictions imposed would impact both parties equally.

and frankly, i don't understand why anybody would oppose reforming campaign funding laws. mccain-feingold was probably the best piece of bipartisan legislation to emerge in decades, and in a complete farce it was stricken down behind the facade of protecting first amendment rights.

it's funny. somebody like you will decry obama appointing a person like immelt to a prominent position in his administration for cronyism, call obama bought and paid for, etc. etc. etc. and yet here you are, suggesting that the right for rich people and corporations to give unlimited money to politicians, ultimately allowing them to peddle influence, shouldn't be restrained...

Ontario electricity rates going up

Get ready for a heftier hydro bill. Ontario residents will start paying more for electricity starting Tuesday.

A typical household using 800 kilowatt hours a month will see the 'electricity' line on their hydro bill increase by nearly $6, while consumers using smart meters — or time-of-use pricing — will see an increase of about $4.

The Ontario Energy Board, which reviews the rates twice a year, said prices are changing as coal-fired generation declines and is replaced with natural gas, nuclear and renewable energy.

But critics say the governing Liberals' expensive foray into wind and solar power is the main culprit behind higher hydro rates.

Thanks Dalton.

Well, I guess I won't be running my A/C much this summer.

The guest on Coast to Coast AM two nights ago was convinced that it's all part of an Obama-led Marxist plot to overthrow the rights of all Americans on behalf of the coming war with China and Russia that the United States military will be forced to fight into a stalemate so that from the destruction of America the New World Order can form a global government.

625 MILLION rounds. What struck me is that Greece MILITARY has something like a 200 million rounds (90's) "stockpiled" for war and this is 3x as much in two CIVILIAN branches.

I'm kind of hoping to see some related story on how it will be spent or why the need for so much.
