Updates and Rumours from around the League

"I don't know about a percentage, but I'm halfway there."
- Dave Bolland on his injury progress

What is today? Dumb quote day?

That team is locked in.

The goalies are signed long term. They have 5 dmen all making 4+ mill, all signed for 3 or more years. Upfront, Kesler, Booth, Burrows, Higgins are all signed long term.

The Sedins come off the books after next season, but those are the two guys who you'd want to keep long term.

Gillis has done very little with the roster. He's done some tinkering here and there, but nothing major. I expect the same in the offseason. If he thinks Luongo is worth top assets, can you imagine the pricetag he'd place on other guys.

Any interest in any of the Canucks D for the Leafs?

maybe hamhuis. maybe.

hamhuis is pretty great.

solid all around 30-40 point dman.

beauchemin-esque.

he'd be a perfect fit here, really. can play him with phaneuf for a good reliable veteran pair, could pair him with gunnarsson for a defensive pair, could pair him with franson in the safe fraser role, could pair him with gardiner/rielly as a veteran presence.

i know you guys love skaters and puck handlers but this team could really use a reliable steadying influenc eon the blueline. and it's tough to find guys like that who can also play special teams and move the puck but who aren't top pair guys (with top pair salaries).

he'd be a good pickup, if available.

that said, i suspect the canucks would move bieksa first

Gillis seems like such a dick to trade with though.

But for the sake of argument, we could move forward with:

Phaneuf, Hamhuis, Franson, Gardiner, Gunnarsson, Rielly.

no interest in bieksa. one of the most overrated players in the league.

Hamhuis would be a good fit but he'd be expensive.

Yeah, it’s true that this team needs to improve at holding a lead. They’re pretty brutal.

"5 years ago we came in here and reset this organization and it's time to do it again"

How the **** did you "reset" the organization, Gillis? You didn't do shit.

Gillis blaming:

PP opportunities
Uncertainty of the lockout and shortened season
Significant injuries
"Changing landscape" (??)

Hmmm. Thinking about it, and not sure if spending another $4+ million on a defender with Phaneuf, Gunn, Gardiner, Rielly, Franson is the best use of cap.

so maybe this is PS3

- Gillis keeps talking about it being a "messed up season" and his ability to make moves going into the playoffs was hindered by that. Says "messed up season" about 4-5 times.
- Believes he would've been able to make a deal if the lockout hadn't occurred and thinks the landscape will be very different this summer (limited available players)
