The New Division

it's amazing how seriously people take this "leafs were lucky" narrative.

The leafs scored a lot because they have skilled goalscorers.

Yup. And they were missing Lupul for almost the entire year.

They have 3 guys with legit PPG potential along solid depth behind them. And a very good scoring blueline.

They will be one of the top offensive teams in the league, again.

I don't think you quite realize what going from the second worst shooting % in the league to a more realistic # will mean for the Sens, along with the additions of elite offensive players to the line up.

The Sens advanced stats were excellent last year WITHOUT their stars...they will leave the Leafs in the dust next season.
 
Sens advanced stats were slightly above average, not excellent.

Almost exactly as good as the Isles. Not as good as the Habs.
 
I do enjoy how a player that was apparently the perfect example of the Leafs' lack of depth when he was on our 3rd line, is now suddenly a clear quality upgrade to the Sens' top-6, though.
 
Of course, the Sens' advanced stats were significanlty better than the Pens' advanced stats last year.

How did that turn out for you?

They weren't excellent, they were good. The Sens fenwick (possession) ranking was 10th in the league.

Shooting % better go way up, because they will need to make up a lot of goals.

Of course, the Sens lost one of their best possession players on the team in Gonchar, making their blueline a lot weaker.

Gonchar out, Karlsson in...I'm guessing Erik can help the Sens possession numbers a little more than Gonchar.
 
I wouldn't put money on either franchise, both seem primed for a letdown year. New players, higher expectations and new travel schedule. It's a toss-up, IMO.

After Karlsson, it's ugly in terms of puck skills on the Sens blueline.

There's a reason they allowed a lot shots on goal despite having a good amount of possession.
