OT: American Politics

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

The height of fear mongering - and the start of the death spiral in the Federal Liberal party.

please, it was whining from you and your separatist brethren over a few measly dollars spent to try and promote Canada in Quebec after the close shave neverendum that started the slide. No one other than military wannabes gave a crap about that ad.

You aren't serious, are you?

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Can you explain to us what you meant when you said that the Senate expense scandal was already 3/4 of the gas plant scandal?

Can you explain to us why I should try to explain your lack of reading comprehension?
Oh, and kudos to Harper for actually arguing to keep up the health care benefits for his trio of expense-cheating misfit Senators. Make sure you don't include those numbers in the calculation.
The RCMP is still investigating. Perhaps a few more of his hand-picked minions from the Senate he vowed to abolish in 06 will be caught ripping off the public as well.
"So, friends, it is time for the Senate to show it can reform itself. The vast majority of Conservative senators want to do this," Harper said.
$43B for fighter jets that can't fly over 40% of the area they will be needed to cover. Throw those numbers away too.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Stephen Harper doggies complaining about fear mongering? Surely you jest!

"Iraq's continued defiance of the community of nations presents a challenge which must be addressed. It is inherently dangerous to allow a country such as Iraq to retain weapons of mass destruction, particularly in light of its past aggressive behaviour. If the world community fails to disarm Iraq we fear that other rogue states will be encouraged to believe that they too can have these most deadly of weapons to systematically defy international resolutions and that the world will do nothing to stop them. As the possession of weapons of mass destruction spreads, the danger of such weapons coming into the hands of terrorist groups will multiply, particularly given in this case the shameless association of Iraq with rogue non-state organizations.

That is the ultimate nightmare which the world must take decisive and effective steps to prevent. Possession of chemical, biological or nuclear weapons by terrorists would constitute a direct, undeniable and lethal threat to the world, including to Canada and its people. As we learned, or should have learned on September 11, having no malice toward these groups will not absolve the citizens of any country from the hatred they direct toward us and toward our civilization."

- Stephen Harper

That, my koolaid guzzling friends, is the height of fear mongering.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

That, my koolaid guzzling friends, is the height of fear mongering.

Michael Callan just flew a plane from Ontario all the way down to Nashville, crashing it just off one of their runways, and killing himself.
So the pertinent paranoia is: how did he go unnoticed for so long in all that radar? Could a terrorist just use a Cesna plane like Callan did for the next strike, since nobody's watching them?

In no way shape or form was reading comprehension a problem.

You said that $750k in senate "mis-spending" is three quarters of $1b.

Explain what you were "trying to say".

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Harper made you sick? It's almost as if you just started following politics in the past 8 years.

Evasive answers are a part of every single political system.

Chretien's english notwithstanding, he was bang on correct. Not sure why you're using that as an example of of not answering a question. The U.S provided **** all for real evidence, or proof that Saddam was in possession of any banned weaponry. There's a reason "coalition of the willing" was such a tremendous punchline at the time.

Daniel Dale @ddale8
They could sell 100,000! "@reporterdonpeat: 1,000 Rob Ford bobbleheads arriving this month to raise money for United Way: Mayor's office"

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Anybody seen a Ford pipe in one of those variety stores that have a little paraphernalia section? It just occurred to me, like that movie where they name all their bongs, lol.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Polls can change, but I hope the right wingers are ready for Mayor Chow, by the looks of things today. Just remember that you have your portly golden boy to thank for it as well.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Couple of my friends from Windsor are like "Well he admitted his failings and deserves a second chance." regarding Ford. I nearly fell off my chair.

They are just going off his press conference yesterday but they aren't informed.

I do not know how if you look at this saga in Toronto and read about it how you can still support him.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

I had a post back in May when this first broke, where I outlined the story of Marion Barry and suggested that Ford did the same. It's a fantastic narrative to sell to idiots, and it almost always works. Admit you're human, show your vulnerable side and talk about how you feel that you have personally disappointed the people who voted for you. Go to rehab, legitimately get help for the issues you have (sometimes just talking to a mental health professional about how to cope with stress, life, etc can do a world of good), come back out of rehab, crush in the next election and move on with your life. If Ford had done something similar to what I suggested, he would be out of rehab by now, and would have every media outlet in the city (other than the Star) to use as a personal campaign vehicle. He would be building up a massive election warchest, and he would be perfectly positioned to ruin whichever lefty saviour gets churned out to challenge him (likely Chow) in this year's muni election.

Instead he's turned himself into a ****ing pariah. The vast majority of the politicians that would have stumped for him will now treat him like a leper, because of how bad he's poisoned his personal brand. He's brought an incredible amount of bad press onto the city, he's basically handled this about as poorly as it's possible to handle it. This will be constant news from now until the election, there will constantly be new details coming out (wait until the engine on the Lisi trial fires up.....), the public will constantly be reminded of how he just didn't smoke crack, but lied about it for 6 months. His anger will show constantly as the issue wears on him, outbreaks and tirades in the media (get off my property!!!!) will become the norm, he'll be made to look unprofessional, unhinged, and out of control by media outlets.

All because he refused to play the game when the opportunity presented itself. That was his get out of jail free card and he thought he was above and beyond needing it. He's ****ed, just a matter of time and circumstance now.

Yeah but he's really, really, really sorry. And it won't happen again because from now on he'll only drink in his man cave.
