Updates and Rumours from around the League

Even though his offensive numbers have dropped, teams see what they could get for him. And as mentioned before, teams were offering firsts for him last year. I think Pittsburgh really would want him as would Washington, and Nonis knows this. He could get a decent player back. I would just really want to know what his intentions are and what numbers he'd be looking for as a UFA? Does he want a raise knowing some teams will pay him, or does he want to stay a leaf even with Grabo and Mac being left off. Maybe he's pissed.

Yeah, you trade him if you aren't going to resign him. It makes sense to shop him around.

Especially with guys like D'Amigo and Ashton showing they belong.

His value may be elevated due to his Olympic selection and may get even higher if he performs well in whatever role he gets on his team. That said, I like what he brings to the team ... just not sure that it can't be replaced within.

He's a unique player. He does everything well and never takes a shift off. He's good defensively, good offensively when given a shot, skates, shoots, hits, can move up and down the lineup, is almost always healthy. Who can replace him? What would we get for him as a UFA that would make it worth trading him?? He should be a guy that we keep and extend right now.

Yeah, I really like Kuly with Naz and Loops, not sure who we have in house who could replace what he does there. I don't think it's a coincidence that the lines recent success coincided with Kuly replacing Raymond there.

With that said, depending on what his contract demands are, it makes sense to shop him if we won't be resigning him.

I'd shop Raymond too. For $1 mill everyone can fit him under the cap. Could get something good.
So, you're okay with trading both Raymond and Kulemin because you don't want to lose them for nothing as UFA's.

What kind of return would you be wanting for them?

I don't think they need to dump them at any cost just so to avoid losing them for nothing. But may as well see what you can get.

Especially because we have a bunch of good, young forwards with the Marlies (McKegg, Holland, Leivo, Broll, Ashton, D'Amigo and maybe even Brown and Verhaeghe after their seasons are done).

That. If we can get quality young assets for expendable pieces, go for it. Especially if you think some of the kids are ready to step up and replace them.

Once Bolland and Clarkson are back, I think Raymond becomes very, very expendable. Kuly I'd be more reluctant to part with, but it's worth exploring the market for them.

Kulemin bolts for russia this summer...book it.

Dude is a 2.5 million dollar NHL'er, and a 5-6 million dollar KHL'er. During the lockout, he was a stud power forward in the KHL...some drunk russian oil tycoon is going to remember that.

Thats why we should trade him immediately

Besides ME's speculation is there any shred of proof Kulemin has expressed interest in going to the KHL or any other team? Unless there is solid indication Kulemin is considering a move then it makes NO sense to move him, he's a key player and we are in the final stretch of the playoff push we cannot afford to lose one of our core players for prospects or picks at this point.

yup. been saying that for months.

It is on Nonis to find out whether or not we can get him resigned to a good deal. If not, move him to the highest bidder and let them worry about him bolting.

I would not be surprised in the least to see him bolt if gets offered 2x the money he would get here. And why wouldn't he?

I agree with moving Raymond instead. Kulemin is much harder to replace and would prefer Raymond not even on the roster once Clarkson/Bolland gets back.

Yes its up to Nonis, but usually he waits until the player tells him he wants to stay or go, that's been his approach all along. I think right now Kulemin is valubale to us right now it's IMO in our best interests to keep him and wait to see how this plays out in the offseason.

Im not exactly sure how it works in the front office, but i figure the manager asks "How much $ do you want?" and "do you want to stay?". If either answer is not definitive enough, you move the guy.

You can not lose this guy for nothing without replacing him some way.

The only thing that sucks is that we are stuck with Clarkson as his "replacement" because of the contract. Unless we are able to resign Kulemin to a decent deal.
