Top 50 NHL Players

Kane is more dynamic and puts up more assists. Kessel scores more goals more regularly, not to mention plays on one of the worst "top" line centers in the NHL.

It's a matter of preference, like I said, I just like Kane a lot, I enjoy his style of play, his dynamism and his ability to be clutch and make big plays. Kessel is definitely a better goal scorer but I've found Kane to be a better playmaker.

Let's hear 'em! :)

Sure.

Given their age, I don't think Chara and Datsyuk should be on the list (since age is a factor and the list is based on trade value).

Couture before Perry is laughable. In fact Perry should be much higher.

Hall should be before Benn.

Giroux before Seguin.

Given their age, MaxPac should be ahead of Sharp.

Evander Kane is way too high. So is Ryan Johansen.

Ryan Suter is too low.

There's probably about 10 -12 dmen in the league I'd take over Karlsson who is atrocious defensively so yes Karlsson at #8 is laughable.

Not saying he shouldn't be in the top 30 but 8 is way too high for a one dimensional dman

10-12? I dunno about that. He might be one dimensional, but he's pretty exceptional at it.

Given his age, there is maybe 5 defensemen at most that I would pick before him.

The criteria is strange, contract, cap hit etc? Those don't judge best players, they might judge best value but not best player.

Only very slightly.

They're pretty damn close statistically actually.

3 year splits:
Kessel: 82gp 36g 46a 82pts
Kane: 82gp: 31g 48a 79pts

Lol I knew I would get that

Shea Weber
Duncan Keith
Drew Doughty
Alex Pietrangelo
Ryan Sutter
Pk Subban
Ryan Mcdonagh
Victor Hedman
Oliver Eckman Larsson
Kevin shattenkirk

I would honestly take these ten guys ahead of Karlsson...may not be as offensively gifted but these are all more complete dmen

Datsyuk ahead of Max, Backes, and Pavelski is crazy. 36 year old with 3 years at a heavy cap hit? Yeah, no point in reading any more.

No....

Karlsson is a points machine...who cares about the fact his defensive game is not as good...I'll take his points and let other dmen on his team worry about shutting down opposing top lines

Right now, I would only take Doughty (maybe Weber and Sutter) ahead of Karlsson...it's much easier to get a defensive dmen, than a scoring machine like Karlsson

10-12??? Are you high?

Like I told the other guy who always shits on Karlsson/Letang because of their defensive holes: Who cares? They're never in their own end. Yeah, they're not fun if they're stuck in their own end, but they're not Marc-André Bergeron-esque. They always retrieve the puck, evade forechecking because of their amazing skating or because they find someone to pass the puck to quickly.

Bolded are the only ones I take before Karlsson.

I listed 10 dmen in a post above that I would take ahead if him and I stand by it

The guy is just horrible defensively and is soft as butter...nice to rack up points but if your getting 60 points and finishing -16 there's a problem there

Again, who cares if he sucks defensively if he never has to play defense because he's always getting into the offensive zone?

Name me one defenseman in the league who's harder to forecheck against.

Forechecking with a single forward is impossible against Karlsson, he'll outskate all but maybe 1-2 players on the planet.

If his defensive liability was limited fine I would agree with you, but his defense is really not good and you're playing this guy 28 minutes a game.

Sorry but I'll take the steady and more physical dmen I listed who will get 20 points less a year

His own coach has made sarcastic remarks about his defense
