Habs News & Notes: 2014 Offseason & Training Camp

and then you would cry when they did it back to us, some things just should not be done, banging your brother's wife, banging your sister's husband, or your dad's wife or mom's husband, and signing RFA offer sheets

I'd have the same reaction as when we get scored on, "why didn't [so and so] do [action] to prevent it?" If you're Bergevin and you don't want to get offer sheeted, sign your players before July 1st or, if it's available to you, sign up for arbitration with your RFAs so that you can't get offer sheeted.

Offer sheets are part of the game and they should be used, although as BKerr pointed out, Smith & Krug don't apply, so my example of offer sheeting them is moot.

Because since most teams match it won't make your team better. It just forces the other team pay more.

Sure, that's part of the point. It forces to maybe choose a deal that is less than convenient for them because they're strapped for money.

San Jose did this the year Chicago won the Cup in 2010 when they gave Hjarmalsson (sp) an offer sheet. It was more than Chicago was willing to pay him, but they bit the bullet & paid him. Meanwhile, it was partially a ploy so that if Chicago did match, they wouldn't be able to sign Niemi and San Jose ended up signing him. And in the scenario that Chicago chose not to match, they were glad to get Hjarmalsson on their team.

Next year when Bawstun is going to be cash strapped and they don't want to pay too much to Hamilton right away... I wouldn't mind giving up some draft picks to have Dougie Hamilton through an offer sheet.

. . . MB will not offer-sheet an RFA. It's not gonna happen . . . even if he "should." BTW, as a professional, there are things you don't/shouldn't do even if the rules allow you to. Just saying.
