Leaf Rumours

Nah ... this is just Shanny giving his 2 cents on the firing, I think.

Now here's a rumor ... I've heard through my colleague here that there's been a lot of talks about Shane Doan and the Leafs ... seems like the veteran (38 man!) is off to a slower start and the Coyotes are looking to unload his $5M / yr contract. The Leafs are looking for veteran leadership and Doan is one of the stronger leaders that is available ...

He's been under pressure to come out of hiding and say something, especially on the wake up such an important change in the organization. He is going to probably just say things weren't working out, drop a couple of words on analytics, and say that his team are working hard to identify weaknesses and possible solutions. etc. etc.

Shanahan: biggest asset is our speed but you have to be more sound defensively. We have to have the puck more.

Shanahan: "Being where we are in shots against is not acceptable."

#Leafs president Shanahan said the team "needs more strategies" in all three zones in order to have possession of the puck more.

More strategies.

If this was the last year of his contract, then maybe you consider it (I still wouldn't be interested). But old and busted 39 year-old Shane Doan for a $5.3 cap hit next year too?

No ****ing thanks!

Peter Horachek will be the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Will look at candidates including him in the offseason

I don't know, he's giving you the same production as Lupul more or less, is healthier, and has one year left at the same price as opposed to three.

I would probably take it.

If Phoenix was looking to dump Doan to clear salary, they probably wouldn't be interested in Lupul.

I also hope that if we trade Lupul, we can do better than just salary dumping him. But we'll need him to be at least somewhat healthy and productive for a while.

Keep hearing from MSM radio/twitter that Mark Hunter is the next GM. Less uncertain but thrown against the wall has been Dale coming in as coach. Do not want the latter. I'd be shocked if Nonis was allowed to do anything without tacit Shanny approval and certainly not grant new contracts at this point.

Also no ty on Doan. Now if they want to get rid of Ekman-Larsson....

Yandle is the name I have kept hearing. I wonder if a bigger deal could be had, but the salary going back to Arizona would have to be similar.
