Leafs/Habs/Sens 2014-15

Exactly what Hamburgler is to the Sens.

He's making peanuts to be a backup. Maybe $500K more than he'd make in the minors somewhere.

Plus free McDonalds for life. Don't hate. The 3 playoff games he got us more than pay for his entire contract.

You know what the playoffs are?

He's lucky to be getting a solid diet like McDonald's for life. I hear a happy meal is out of reach for the Ottawa players with their per diem being what it is.

You just signed an ECHL goalie to a 3 year guaranteed money deal....we just signed the best coach in the league for 8 years. You're really chirping today?
That 1.35m is really keeping me up at night.

Funny to see that TO needs to pay 6m+ to attract talent. Telling on how that franchise is viewed.

I know you are trying to make a funny - but per diems are all the same between teams. It's part of the CBA.

Weak sauce. All the Leafs did was match the money Buffalo threw at him.

Because, y'know...the Leafs actually have money, and choose to spend it to better the hockey team. I know this may be a foreign concept.

Think about what you just said - they had to match the same money that BUFFALO (aka a marginally worse team in the armpit of America) offered.

And of course they matched it, and added years. 8 year contract for a coach?

Insanity, no matter what.

Please tell us, what's the downside of the 8year 50 million "insane" contract?

Insanity?

Why? Explain.

I'm supposed to care what a coach makes who's salary does not count against the cap?

50 million will buy you a lot of black market livers.

As rich as MLSE is, giving out an 8 year contract to a coach makes no sense.

Just funny that Toronto literally had to overpay Buffalo to get their man. Buffalo!

Okay, they gave Mike Babcock an 8 year contract.

Again, so what? Explain to me the negative impact that decision has on the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Who cares???

Give him a 20-years contract. There is NOTHING insane about this. If he doesn't work out, we'll sack him and next guy comes on board and that guy will again get paid. The money is completely irrelevant. Completely. Not sure why you are having such a problem with the fact that this money paid to Babs doesn't even move the needle by bit.

But I thought he was NEVER going to Toronto no matter what they offered? Different story today?

A guy making $20k a year may think Corks' last $1,000 per person vacation to Mexico was insane! Cork may think that a billionaire paying $10K a month in rents for a house is insane. Fact is that $1,000 bucks is nothing to Corks, and $10K a month is nothing to a multi billionaire. It's a matter of standings. Main point is that neither party will 'miss out' on anything they want moving forward because they spent this $1000 or $10K. and that fact make this anything but insanity. They just got the best coach in the league. ALL that matters.

Rich or not, resources are finite.

Which is exactly the point here. Resources are finite (as in they are not going to spend a billion dollar on this team), but threshold is sooooo far away from what they are spending that this is a drop in the bucket.
