At what point do we look at the GM...

So... Not re-signing Markov really starting to feel like:

Forget the language issue, who would have been you guys choice, as the best available GM?

Kyle Dubas, probably. David McNab from Anaheim would be a possibility as well, assuming he'd be willing to leave California.

I am not much into old school GM, but if i want go for one which may be possible to get him is Dave Tallon, he also speaks French.

Bob Murray with french lessons

This whole French language thing is another BS excuse, they just like to hire a guy from Quebec(Gainey was exception because of his connection with Habs as player), i mean in Soccer, many World class coaches when they are available and are linked with few clubs in different countries, they start to take language courses, Mourinho, Ancelotti, Pep and many many have done that. I mean it is not the end of the World. I have a feeling they just want hire the local guy.

I feel French or local is a plus but not an absolute requirement. But there is no guarantee of success by hiring a foreign one and the locals would likely be even more impatient in case of failure.

I never understood why a GM can't use a translator. It's not like they give interviews all the time.

The coach I can understand, I don't agree with it but I understand it.

I never get that either, they talk with press how many times a year? 6-7-8 times max.

Even coach, we are in 2017. We are no more in 70s and 80s, a lot of Frenchies now can understand what a hockey coach say in English, probably not the older generation, but with internet, etc things changed in last 15-20 years.

I see many people rating high Kyle Dubas, the guy is very young and smart, i mean if Habs offer him a GM job and give him a 6 months to learn some basic of French, are you telling me he won't accept or can't get it done? Mourinho learnt Italian during a summer, good enough to make long interview(well the guy used to be a English translator before becoming a coach, so he had a good language skill but still).

Didn't the Habs approached Jim Nill? So they're definitely not against that option it seems. It just needs to be someone with a certain pedigree.

Probably for similar reasons why the Leafs (and every other team) don't hire a GM that can't speak English. You gotta speak the language of the constituents. You'll never see a leader (political, sports or major corp) that needs a translator to speak to people. The public would never accept it.

In europe its a regular occurence.

It's different here. I can't think one one political leader or top executive that needs to use a translator to speak to his/her constituents.

Can you imagine the Oklahoma Thunder hiring a Farsi speaking GM? There would be riots.

The local.press has always gone on and on about the coach. Not so much about the gm. And as already pointed out Nill didnt soeak french and bergevin talks to the media a few times a year.

Timmins does the draft interviews in english and no one cares.
