2018 NHL Entry Draft

It is about using the skills you have. Byron scores by uses his speed not being playing big.
Gallagher is one of the extremely rare players that plays big to create offense.

If Byron tried to play the way Gallagher does (aka plays the big game) he would be pretty much useless because that is not his skill set.

Byron plays in traffic and goes in hard to play areas to score, it's a big part of his success.

Speed is a big part of his game but he is a player who plays with very little fear, he's a lot closer to Gallagher than you think.

Case in point last night he had no fear going into the corner first even if he knew there was a 6'6 monster right behind him, and what happened, he took a very dirty hit.

Anyways, my point is that you can't get away with cheating if you're small and don't have a great skill set....speed alone isn't enough.

Unfortunately bigger players always get away with cheating because everyone sees potential in players with size.

Fair enough. I took at if you wanted small players to play like Gallagher.

You need balance but you aren't winning a cup without the contributions of players like Muzzin , Martinez, Seebrook , Sidenberg , Boychuk, Dailey etc.....to be those defensive D minute crunching players .

Pitt had nothing but stable stay at home players last year without Letang but Dumolin and Hainsey were outstanding and no one on that D was a quality puck mover or midgets .
I still don't quite know how they've won with that defense to be honest. Big collective effort.

There's definitely a lot of people on here who would build their team differently than I would.

I want skill skill skill.
You still need a bit of balance. Even the 70s Habs needed some grit and good defense to knock the Bruins and Flyers. Islanders, Oilers, Wings were all heavy on skills but with an healthy dose of grit as well.

Think of it more like team canada. Do you want grinders in the place of a more skill player like they use to do. Of course in those skill players you are going to get a variety of styles.

I mean you need cheap grinders in the NHL because of the cap.

But lets just look at left wing.

Johnny Hockey
Ovie
Marchand
Hall

note: that is the top 4 scorers in the NHL so far this season

is anybody going to replace one of them with Saad or Lucic ?

Johnny Hockey has to the silliest hockey nickname of all time.

anyway, Ovenchicken is not small nor is Hall

Marchand is short but built like a tank

Only Gaudreau would really be considered small and puny in that group

Its better than most nicknames these days which simply consists of shortening a guys name or adding "sy" at the end of it.

Team Canada has enough guys with size and skills that it made little sense to go with grinders with limited skills.

Its like taking Hab, adding sy at the end of it, making Habsy and thinking that its a clever nickname.

My opinion on those type of names are well known. However, this name is way too derivative of Manziel's name. Also, what adult male wants to go by Johnny?

Lindstrom only used his body for positioning, ever see him in person....he was a toothpick. Ultra high hockey IQ, specifically play aniticipation, and elite in stick positioning - Markov was the only other Dman I've ever seen who was anywhere as good with his stick. Both were so flawless with their stick, u never even noticed it.

Yeah, Markov was basically a poor man's Lidstrom.

Johnny Cash... Johnny Unitas... Johnny Dangerously.

I like the Johnny Hockey nickname. I agree with the others that say it's better than just adding "sy." Or shortening the last name and throwing an s on it.

Johnny Hockey is the best nickname in the NHL right now IMO.

It's the equivalent to Bart Simpson wanting to change his name to Joe Kickass when he turns 18. It's cool AF.

That wasn't the etymology of the name.

Copying the name of some video game character is far better obviously.
