OT: American Politics

Mock all you want, your ideas aren't rooted in realism. It's easy to opine without parameters isn't it? Actually makes you look stupid.

No. This should come out of homeland defense budget. How are these incidents any different than terrorism?

Because mental illness is not a political motivation?

Just some napkin math...there are about 120,000 public elementary and high schools in the united states. Add even 100,000K a year in expense (which is probably a fairly small fraction of the actual cost of securing these places adequately if the goal is to stop this type of stuff from happening...the average mall spends about 2 million for reference).

So we're talking 12 Billion on the extreme, extreme "let's hire 2 veterans and give them AR-15's, add some cameras and stuff" end of things. If the average spend is closer to 250K per school (which the way pork flows in the US government...good ****ing luck) you're into 30 Billion, or half the size of the HUD budget, the same amount spent on all science funding, etc.

All because you people can't ****ing regulate weapons of war in the hands of untrained nutters who can't stand the idea of waiting a couple days to ensure that terrorists, and lunatics can't purchase an arsenal.

Tax the ammo. Heavily.

And again, you guys choose to take the unrealistic approach to the problem. You're not getting the guns. The solution lies elsewhere, for now.

There is no solution elsewhere. Rail against it all you want to, it isn't there. You guys aren't going to be willing to eat the costs and you know it. The kids will have their say, the right wing media will continue with their disgusting spin on the opinions of the kids who got shot at, and everyone will move on....again. Until the next time, and the next, and the next.

Do you want more napkin math? It’s estimated one in 10 people suffer from mental illness. That would mean that there are 33million people in the states with mental illness. Do you really think you’re going to prevent all of them from doing something like this? Not happening.

I would argue your parameters are too strict. You got a severe case of tunnel vision. You're the proverbial hammer always looking for a nail.

It’s cute that you people think banning AR15s will change anything. Just shows you know little about guns.

No problem then, get 2/3 of both the house and senate to ratify an amendment. I'll wait.

You know very little about incentives and deterrents. There are some good books on behavioural economics out there.
