OT: American Politics

Usually when Trump holds a presser or says something off-the-cuff that outrages Dems and/or DC pros, the flood of press releases—or at least tweets—from lawmakers is more or less immediate. This 15+ minutes is a long stunned silence/"what are we supposed to say?" phase.

Hey look, histrionics in full swing already.

John Brennan is a piece of shit liar. Don't use him as a source. That's like using Trump as a source.

Brennan and Clapper are slimy to the max.
Zeke is Zeke and Twitter is Twitter.

That said, what is your take on it?

This disgrace will have serious repercussions on the ground. Putin now has a green light for more aggression. More trouble in ME to secure high oil prices, more hacking, etc.

Right now, @SpeakerRyan is gearing up to temple his eyebrows, and confess that actually he didn’t have a chance to see the press conference, and he’s focused on a non-existent legislative agenda.

Joe Walsh
@WalshFreedom
This press conference is an absolute disgrace. Trump won't even side with America.

What Trump did today was commit treason. He cannot be supported anymore. He is a clear & present danger to America. Republicans can no longer be quiet.

I won't be quiet. I am done with him.

Hard to believe what is happening right in front of our eyes: a foreign adversary installed a puppet regime in our county that he now controls. The world order has shifted. And inexplicably our own elected officials are doing nothing about it, even after DNI Coats warning.

The clearest message from this pathetic display is that Trump doesn't represent America, much like Putin doesn't represent Russia. And he just spent two hours alone with a KGB agent.

This is Putin's dream, bilateral equality with the US despite his dictatorship & aggression, one on one with the US president instead of confronting American interests, international institutions, and free world values.

Garry Kasparov @Kasparov63

That Trump not only allows this, but happily defends the dictator who recently ordered a Russian military intelligence unit to attack the USA, is either an overwhelming display of weakness or treason.

Garry Kasparov @Kasparov63

Trump hits Obama for not stopping Putin's attacks on the US. He hits Merkel for making a pipeline deal with Putin. But next to Putin himself, he won't say anything. Is he wearing a tie or a leash? #PutinsPoodle

Garry Kasparov @Kasparov63

And there's the next item on Putin's wish list, offering "help" in investigating his own attacks on the US in exchange for Trump's help stopping @Billbrowder and the Magnitsky sanctions that target him & his oligarchs.

Trump's "We're all to blame" says it all. Attacking his own administration and flattering Putin. America First? A sick joke. Where are Trump's supporters right now? Where are you? You fools and enablers selling out your country and the world for this traitor?

Garry Kasparov @Kasparov63

I'm ready to call this the darkest hour in the history of the American presidency. Let me know if you can think of any competition.

Since well before the election, Trump has repeatedly argued that he Russia wanted Clinton to win.

Today, we get the answer straight from Putin himself.

"Did you want Donald Trump to win?" @jeffmason1 of Reuters asks.

Putin: "Yes I did."

David Lauter @DavidLauter
Notably, Putin did not deny having compromising information on Trump. He deflected the question by saying that Trump was an insignificant businessman when he came to Moscow and that they can't monitor everyone.

Sam Rosenfeld @sam_rosenfeld

It was a nice touch for Putin to phrase his non-denial in a way that belittled Trump's core identity. Cucking the asset.

Axios @axios
Neil Cavuto of Fox Business calls Trump's press conference "disgusting", "That sets us back a lot."

Michael Crowley @michaelcrowley
On CNN Rep. Darrell Issa just cast doubt on Friday’s Mueller indictment. “How do we know” the charges are accurate? “Did we hack them?” Calls the timings suspicious.

This is pretty much exactly what I was expecting from this trip. The only questions I had was how the US right wing was going to react to what was always going to be a complete ****ing disaster of a trip. Business as usual selling out everything they claimed to believe so they could remain in the church of Trump, or are they finally going to have their "the emperor isn't wearing any clothes" moment?

stop the bullshit attacking the source bothsides nonsense you kneejerk go with every single time.

just stop.

it's really stupid.

You’re a ****ing idiot sometimes sorry.

I’ll let you recover from your hysteria first.

I could actually see Russia scaling back their interference this year to let Trump say “see, nothing happened”. Then they’ll do it again in 2020. Old school KGB misdirection.

Why bother when the American President is willing to parrot the KGB? Shit, this is a pretty important election to interfere with. If the GOP can hold the house until 2020? That's huge for them, clearly.

So do you now see how compromised this twit is? Or are you still on the "it's a witch hunt" train?

I believe in many things ME.

I believe Trump is a carpetbagger that’ll say anything at anytime, regardless of veracity, if he believes it will benefit him.

I believe Russia meddled and really didn’t care how it affected things up until Trump got nominated, then they chose to escalate.

I believe the possibility exists but without proof, nothing will fall on Trump, as I’ve maintained for 2 years now.

I believe Trump embarrassed himself today, the great negotiator my ass. If you took my beer, and I know you did it, I’d call you out on it in front of anyone around, and that’s just a beer. This is like coming in your house, ****ing your significant other, killing your dog then eating your dinner. All the while saying “wasn’t me”.

The one thing that I have reservations on is that nothing concrete has emerged on Trump himself. If it doesn’t, he wins the war or words.

The world according to America right now.

EU,Canada, Mexico=Foes/Enemies, leaders to be treated harshly.

China=Competitor, Lesser foe, treats leader with respect.

Russia=Competitor, Leader is a friend.

I hate America. No way to sugar coat it. I hate that ****ing country.

Oh and why bother? To get another 4 years of Trump that’s why. Pretty sure they’d prefer that more than a GOP house.

Okay, this is fair.

I believe Russia meddled and really didn’t care how it affected things up until Trump got nominated, then they chose to escalate.

But how does this square with Trump almost exclusively surrounding himself with political operators that had been tossed out of Washington circles years ago, that had deep Russian political ties? Also, how does this square with Trump's decades long relationship with Russian dirty money? Now, I wouldn't argue that Russia needed Trump involved to attempt to meddle, but the idea that they haven't been on team Trump since well before the republican convention doesn't seem to line up with facts imo.

If Trump was interested in having Russian assistance, he would have surrounded himself with the exact people he surrounded himself with.

I believe the possibility exists but without proof, nothing will fall on Trump, as I’ve maintained for 2 years now.

I'm not asking what you think can be proven in court, I'm asking what you believe to be true is. If you're going to sit there and tell me that your threshold for personal belief is what can be proven in court, I'll call you a lying ****ing liar.

There's a big pile of evidence that the Russians were involved, and there's a big pile of evidence that Team Trump willingly got into bed with them. You seem to be unwilling to take the pretty obvious next logical step in accepting that Trump is a power freak who doesn't let anyone else do anything on his behalf without his direction, that's he's as crooked as the day is long, and on just what's available publicly, has been on the fringes of the Russian circles of power for decades. There's literally nothing about him or his publicly known history that suggests he wouldn't do this. Convict on my say so? No, save your breath in repeating that nonsense as if I'm suggesting it.

Preponderance of evidence your honour. If everyone in his circle goes down in flames that Mueller lights, he only wins through the sheer stupidity of the American people. If this fire spreads to his sons, and Jared, and even Ivanka and literally everyone in his circle goes down but he stays insulated because nobody rolls on him, there's no way that should be allowed to be a "win" in any way for him. Criminally corrupt or impeachably inept, who ****ing cares? It should all end in the same place.
