2018-19 Canes Miscellaneous News Thread

Purely an exercise in selling tailgating boxes. There's already a Boj over on Chatham St on the edge of Cary and another on Western Blvd.

Also a place to stop for a bite before paying the high prices inside. And gives the residents of the soon to be built apartments someplace to walk to for dinner.

...not to mention the subsequent long-team health problem they'll suffer through if they do so often!

True, but there are doctors offices across Sunday Dr. from the new Bojangles. I know they have a neurologist there, maybe they have a cardiologist too.

TVR could use another game off...

Agreed.

It's more than just playing offside is hard. He's misfiring on a cylinder or two.

Actually, never been that much of a TVR fan. Would prefer to see if we can get something out of that 2014 7th overall pick of ours.

And, no doubt, packing up for the semi-western trip, especially with a back-to-back on the itinerary.

Probably just that...because, after all, apparently we're changing nothing these days.

*insert this is fine meme here*

TSN 1050 Toronto (I think it's a radio station) is Tweeting:

Lebrun: Canes have informed the Leafs they want to know if/when the team starts considering trading Nylander

I'm not going to think about the business side and just enjoy thinking about adding a player with that kind of skill set. As long as we don't trade Slavin (Doubtful anyway, probably Pesce or Faulk) I can live with anything North of the Skinner deal.

Fleury was recalled from Charlotte. Maybe they just want an extra person on the trip.

Color me Unimpressed with Fleury. I know it's early days, but both Bean and Carrick lead the Cherker D in points with 6 each. Both are lefties. Should these guys get the next chance with a callup?

So could Pesce. He hasn’t been good the last few.

But I think Paulie is right, this is protection for the road trip.

Pesce has been taking a lot of days off nursing some health issue or another and his mobility seemed to decay during the game against the Bs the other night. I think this is cover for him more than anything else. TVR has settled on on that left side as much as he's going to and has at least been holding his own. He's also FINALLY stopped wandering over to the wrong side of the ice 10 times a game. I've been encouraged by that of nothing else. Low bar, I know.

As for other options ... Bean left a bad taste in the staff's collective mouth for whatever reason in camp. I don't think you're going to see him with the big club until he has well and truly convinced them that he's bought into whatever he was slack on in camp. A month ain't typically enough for that kind of thing. Carrick? Meh. We all know what he's got to offer at the NHL level and it's not that much. He's solid enough if there's a dire need, but otherwise ...

The chatteratti seem to think that Toronto will definitely make a move on Nylander before the December 1st deadline to sign RFAs. I'm not so sure that it's as much of a given as those guys seem to think. Either way, cost aside, there's no doubt that Nylander would make the Canes roster better and more balanced. So, as long as the money isn't too stupid and the cost isn't too high ... I do think we're a good fit for the kid.

PDG sent to Charlotte. So if we have a forward injury on the roadie, they’re in trouble.

I agree....strange time to send PDG down without calling up another forward. That puts 7 dmen in play if a forward gets hurt tomorrow night or Sat morning.

They don't need to roll 4 lines anyhow.

True. It's customary to have an extra forward and an extra D on a long-isn road trip. Given that we're carrying 3 goaltenders, that's not an option so you pick the most likely and costly possible replacement scenario. In this case Pesce is banged up and we're playing a right D out of position so defense wins the argument. Plus, it's a lot easier to get through a game with 11 forwards than it is with 5 defensemen. No brainer. Even Tripp would make that roster move.

23 roster spots. One extra forward, one extra Dman, one extra goalie.

Why the decision to send PDG down right before they fly out for 2 games in Zona and Vegas? You can't even spin its to save a buck as PDG has a one way contract. It made no sense at all to make that move and leave us with 22 players for this road trip. The only explanation you could give is PDG needs playing time. Well great, then call up Patrick Brown to sit in the press box for the first 2 games of the road trip.

Sorry ... I was extrapolating the team's roster cap into that of the league. Didn't mean to argue a point, per se.

I could see the Canes picking any random forward from the Checkers to be recalled and just put him on a plane to join the team between now and the weekend. Why not give Kuokkanen, Metalanen or even Gauthier a chance since the open slot is a winger...
