OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

As awesome as Kawhi was this year, it was a team effort to win it all.

I really don’t think the Lakers win with a three-headed monster and shit behind them.

If he wants to win, Raps will blow through the east and be a bigger threat to the west than they were this year.

I keep looking at the list of bodies that would show up and it's ****ing grim

Lebron-AD-Kawhi-Kuzma (who is ass imo, but as a 4th option here, whatev)

After that I could see them scoring a legit decent rotation player with their MLE (Seth Curry, Cousins has been mentioned...maybe...maybe Danny Green though I doubt it, he likes money)...but after that it's basically Rondo, Marcus Morris, Lance (maybe), Ray Felton, Jamal Crawford, etc.

Worst thing for LAL now though is that even if they land Kawhi, they're not the only game in town for ring chasers. Golden State is expected to load up on vet minimum guys too. Don't be shocked if a couple decentish vet mins end up in Brooklyn with Kyrie trying to make a case for sticking around the next year when KD is back.

Why does he have to be so annoying and be the only guy who doesn’t sign today?

Why is annoying? He's either coming back to Toronto or he's not. If he is, I don't care how long he takes to decide and he ****ed LAL's and LAC's entire off season up all by himself. If he goes, we weren't really in on anyone who went today, Masai will sniff around the league to make a big splash and if nothing is there, start planning for next season with all the cap space.

Remember what I said about good sources earlier?

Kawhi to Lakers rumblings getting stronger & stronger. Iguodala likely to join Lakers after Memphis buyout. Danny Green & Seth Curry in Lakers’ scope. Lakers offered Rondo vet minimum & 24 hours to decide. Lakers on verge of building powerhouse.

Kawhi doesn't leak, so any rumblings are coming from LAL front office. Memphis has made no mention of buying out Iggy and it would be kind of silly for them to do it. Iggy fits nicely into their rotation, would be a lovely vet to tutor JJJ and Ja, and will likely land them something nice at the trade deadline. Expiring deal with 17M left on it...in this market? Meh.

This is a guy sucking Laker cock for all it's worth.

The tea leaves have to be read here. I get the Raptors don't leak but there is too much smoke about Kawhi leaving at this point. I mean the Lakers not getting anybody from this crazy day of movement is a big sign all on it's own. They must be very confident they are getting him at this point.

Feel like if Kawhi was going to leave he would at least let the Raps know so they can get in on free agency yesterday?

Agreed...but kawhi will most likely still feel he will need load management this year. Lebron a little as well, and AD will get injured. Yes they will fill up there roster but they need players that can give them days off and minutes off in a game. Will they be able to keep up with a possible 20 games of only one of them on the court?
ie kawhi load management, AD injured and lebron playing 38 minutes?

2/16 Wayne Ellington to the Knicks who continue to make sound sensible decisions surrounding adequate professionals and UTR upside talent around RJ Barrett

Cris Carter is as close to a real source on team Kawhi as anyone in the media. I'm going to go with Cris.

According to today's LA Times, Magic told them he spoke with Kawhi yesterday. So Chris is probably wrong on that point.

All the smoke, in this case, is eminating from the same place.

Kawhi Leonard Asked Magic Johnson If Lakers Tried To Trade For Him
JUL 1, 2019 11:02 AM

Kawhi Leonard and Dennis Robertson had sought a meeting with Magic Johnson to open his free agency.

One of the questions Leonard had for Johnson was whether the Los Angeles Lakers tried to trade for Leonard when he requested his departure from the San Antonio Spurs.

“There was one interesting question (Leonard) had for Magic: ‘Did you guys try to trade for me when I was in San Antonio?’," said Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times during an appearance on Spectrum Sportsnet. "And the answer was ‘yes, but because it was Gregg Popovich and the San Antonio Spurs, and our history, they were asking for 2,000 draft picks -- well, not 2,000 -- like four draft picks, first-round draft picks, and we just couldn’t do that.’ And that was one of his questions.

“The uncle’s questions were ‘what’s really going on in the organization between you, Jeanie, Rob Pelinka, everyone? Is it as dysfunctional as we’re reading and hearing?’ And the response was ‘we had some issues, but we’re past that. I’m past that. We’re still a family, such as you fight with your brothers and sisters sometimes, well, I had somewhat of a disagreement with my sister. And Rob Pelinka, yes, I said he was a back-stabber, but that happened then. Now I want the Lakers to be a championship team. Having Kawhi here would do that.

“‘You can play for them because it’s not about me, it’s not about Jeanie, it’s really about this franchise. It’s about Kareem. Wilt Chamberlain. Kobe Bryant. It’s about all those great players. You can be another one, you can join LeBron James and you can win more titles, and you don’t have to put as much stress on your body to do that. We have two stars to work with you.’”

The fact that the Raps ace these 2 particular questions is a very good sign, of course.

You can debate whether Magic's answers are convincing or not.

Yeah. Nothing new. It goes back to Raps having DONE all the things other franchises can only PROMISE.
