Over the last two years he had a 53.1 xGF%, and a 61.4 GF%. His value has been inflated by likely unsustainable production. He had a 69% GF% this year.

Dom's model projects him as a 1.2 GSVA, $5 mill, second line forward this year and Hyman as 2.0, $7 mill, first line winger FWIW.

That's a very good hockey player tho no matter how you twist the numbers. Helped drive the pens third line which is what the leafs could use and something kerf has never been able to do. I mean we all agreed that he's fantastic when they made the trade and assumed he'd be protected. Not gonna pretend to not care about giving him away now that they are letting him go.

Those third and fourth lines are fugly too. You could expect zero offensive production whatsoever from that third line. And if Tavares or Matthews go down for any length of time, having only Kerfoot or Bonino to step into their shoes would be pretty bad.

And I hate both the idea of having Spezza at center full time when he’s much more effective on the wing, and of having two oldsters (Spezza and Simmonds) on the same line. But I guess that’s the lesser of two evils when compared with playing Simmonds higher up the lineup.

Putting Kerfoot on any of our forward lines next year wouldn’t soothe any of my worries.

As for Bonino...sorry, but I’m still scarred by the Foligno fiasco. Going forward, any time you advocate that an old dude with an Italian name is #actuallystillgood and that we should acquire them, my instinct will be to not believe you.

Why is this still controversial? We gave up hallander and a 2023 7th to ensure we had a middle 6 C/W after the expansion draft. If McCann made it through the expansion draft the price would be higher to acquire him.
