The Fucking Season Thread - Redemption Tour '22

Remaining strength of schedule: The Leafs have the toughest in the league but not far off from Tampa or Boston. Boston has a game in hand. We'll also have games between those teams that could eventually end up determining the playoffs matchups.


1- Toronto: @Tampa, @FLA*, @Wash*, Det, Boston
4- Tampa: Toronto, Nashville*, @FLA*, CBJ,@CBJ
8- Boston: @Pit, NYR*, @MON*, FLA, BUF*, @Tor*

Standings:
Leafs 108
Tampa 100
Boston 99

I don't see the Leafs losing home ice here. If they go 1-4 with a regulations win, even if Tampa goes 5-0 they wouldn't catch us, and Boston would have to go 6-0 to do so.

Battle between Tampa and Boston though could go either way. The Leafs maybe in a position to essentially choose their first round opponent when they play that last game.

OMG everyone milks that so much. Funny thing is, no one is left from that 2013 team, and it was complete shit. Leafs would not have even made the playoffs that year except it was a 48 game season. They weren't going anywhere,

They've also had 2 short summers in a row, have multiple key players on the wrong side of 30, and a mercurial (though outstanding) goalie.

They're obviously very good, but I think we match up well in some key areas:

Elite Talent

Matthews-Marner-Tavares-Nylander-Rielly v Kucherov-Stamkos-Point-Hedman

- We have one more game breaker than they have, and the two best game breakers of the bunch (though Kuch is right there with Marner imo). Clear edge if everyone is playing to their abilities.

Secondary forwards:

Bunting-Kerfoot-Mikky-Engvall-Kampf v Killorn-Cirelli-Palat-Bagel-Perry-Colton

This is probably way closer to a wash than anyone outside of Toronto would admit and if we have a healthy Kase (lol), I'd even give us the edge. Both are very deep though, neither group outplaying the other should be much of a surprise.

Bluelines:

Rielly-Gio-Brodie-Lilly-Muzz-XXXXXX (Holl, Lubey, Ras) v Hedman-McDonagh-Sergachev-Cernak-Rutta-XXXXXX (Bogo, Foote)

Again, way closer than a lot of people would ever admit. How good our blueline is in the playoffs will largely be determined by which Muzz we get, whether Keefe deploys Lubey or not, and how Lilly looks in his first playoff attempt. Gio is a massive game changer for our blueline, dude is still really fucking good. Lost in our past playoff failures is that Morgan Rielly whips his cock out and goes hard in the playoffs every year. He's looked fantastic pretty much every series he's been in.

We arguably have slight edge in the bottom 2, and likely have a big ass edge in the most important matchup at the top....assuming that everyone's nuts drop in time for game 1.
 
We match up well against Tampa, and are probably better at this stage, but IMO that is a much harder series than Boston. Both teams play very similarly.

boston is also very hard matchup though.

but we play good agains good teams.

Yep, the only reason we even made the playoffs and took the series to 7 was the great James Reimer.
 
The biggest worry about TB for me is that the biggest reasons why they seem to be a little off this year are named Kucherov, Point, and Vasilevskiy.

and I just don't buy that they have actually gotten worse.
 
Leafs are huge underdogs in either series. They have no idea how to stop the Perfection Line(I'm even leaving the other Bruin history out of it) and the alternative is the 2 time champs.
