OT: American Politics

Biggest takeaways I guess:

- multiple Republican congressmen asked for pardons after Jan 6 (they said they will name names)
- Trump said he agreed his Vice President should be hung
- No one in the trump orbit actually even believed there was any widespread fraud
- Pence asked for the National Guard three times, Trump never did
- Coordination between Trump organizers and Proud Boys/Oathkeepers

Lizard brain telling them what she thinks they want to hear. Everything that comes out of a Trump’s piehole is fleeting, and is denied/reversed when lizard brain perceives new threat/opportunity.

The DOJ has to take down trump. The system didn’t hold. When GOP let Trump off the hook and allowed him to stay in politics they put the nail in the systems coffin. Now the legislative branch is neutered and can’t do anything.

they let Nixon off officially, but they also put him out to pasture. And watergate was nothing compared to Jan 6.

Congress no longer has the power to do that.

It's the actual Republicans that are the problem, not trump. The entire party actively supporting a coup, and actively working on another one now.

They're the ones that need to be held accountable.

To America's credit, they voted Trump out, and likely would again.

If this just clears the way for DeSantis gutting the government its a disaster.

One big telling moment last night, was the declaration that many members of congress requested presidential pardons.

Which begs the questions, who are they, and what crimes did they knowingly commit that require pardons?
I am sure that the DOJ would like to know too.

they got the Rug and Broom they were just trying to clean up..

This was a trial run with the best outcome for the guilty, the GOP. They get to blame the crazy former president, and a select few 'outliers', while dismantling the system. Their ideology doesn't match the population's but that is not a concern. Once they take over, they can manufacture consent though media and education.

Agreed, but if you have a guy who committed treason running for President there is no hope. Can't rely on Congress, but maybe the executive branch and judiciary still kind of work?

Some of the GOPers are true believers, but I think most of them are (legitimately, I think) afraid for their personal safety. They saw the gallows were erected for Mike Pence…

At the end of the day, it’s the hard core, menacing base that gives Trumpism its strength and cows the other GOP.

Anyway, agree with Zeke here, this is a big win for DeSantis.

An early win, not the series win.
