New Canadian Politics Thread

I believe Canada can no longer rely on the U.S. as it's dominant trading partner, and things were maybe just too good for us the last 20-30 years with mainly peaceful trade. But as a country, Canada has the levers to make change and could still do some really interesting things to keep it's economy ticking. I love some of the thinking about taking advantage of the anti-science/anti-information bias going on in the states - by offering money to move that industry north.

you disagree because you're a naive bitch tho.
I disagree because there's more at stake for us than a hockey game. If this was the Leafs, I'd cheer for a line brawl even if it means their top guys get suspended. But I prefer to outsmart them, not out cock-size them. I don't know the answers, I just think it's a bit gay to get worked up over a scheduled meeting.

You keep assuming that we want a tough response because we want to appear macho or some garbage or we’re being emotional but it’s more having watched how Trump responds to people who treat him the way they would a normal politician - in good faith and thinking he will also negotiate in good faith.

And you gotta stop with accusing us of falling for propaganda. You’re mixing up stuff that has been said here with your Twitter feed.

Well of course it's an emotional response. I hope the decisionmakers aren't as emotional as us. Just because they're being unhinged emotional freaks, it doesn't automatically mean we have to do the same. And hey, maybe it does. But there should be a bit more thought put in. And actually talking to them is a good way to get information to help guide the next response (which yes, may be brute force).

You've definitely fallen for the propaganda though, but I don't put any blame on anyone for that. The other side is VERY good at messaging and winning every single PR battle. The fact that scheduling a meeting has caused this much uproar as being "weak" is solid evidence of this.

I don’t think people who want an all out assault believe in appearing tough just for the sake of it. I assume you just think that’s the best way to get achieve the objective (Trump getting fucked and burning his own shithole country to the ground).

At the same time, opposing an all-out tariff assault doesn’t mean you don’t think these attacks on our sovereignty are a genuine, existential threat.

The disagreement, for the most part, just seems to be about what you think is the best strategy to maintain our independence.

… I’ve fallen for propaganda because I heard Doug say how important it was not to budge with people who are not operating in good faith hours before budging and I thought that looked pretty silly? Okay.

That’s really disingenuous bullshit but okay.

Just my opinion. Like I said I think they're really good. But we can agree to disagree on that.

I have to hand it to you. You are the master mischaracterizing other peoples’ arguments in a completely disingenuous way, while also being extremely condescending.

A+ trolling

what propaganda has been fallen for? be specific if you're gonna make those claims.

also, you mischaracterize opposing views in pretty much every post you make on this topic, so I cannot tell if you're arguing in bad faith, trolling, or just dumb (I don't think it is this last one though).
