Thats the stupidity of these particular tariffs. you give your consumers no choice but to buy same goods they were buying, but for more money

Depends. It means that it's value is down relative to a basket of foreign currencies that it's measured against. Dunno what the weighting of the basket is, but would be easy enough to find out. But the short story is that major foreign currencies are gaining value against USD.

The US dollar is worth about 10% less than it was about 4 months ago. These fluctuations can happen but it doesn't typically happen this fast.
