2026 NHL UFA/Trade Thread

A solid and reliable second line allows better time management on the first line and expands matchup capabilities.
agreed although the odd part of these playoffs is that the 2nd line scored more than the first. In the end though, I agree completely. Two scoring lines would make the other team's matchup more difficult

The wingers were a bigger issue than the backend. Their defensive support was atrocious throughout the playoffs.
couldn't get it out of the zone, I would scream at the TV what the fuck are you doing, get it fucking out

Defence would battle to get it to the wingers who would then hand it to the opposing defence

Demidov needs someone to play with. Can’t be Evans ever again. Kapanen isn’t the answer.

Maybe it’s Slaf, but we’re still missing top end talent.

2 actually

Newhook has grown on me and was a warrior in the playoffs but he is not top 6 on a true contender.

Kapanen is good, he’ll improve, but I have no issues with him being trade bait for better.

3rd line of Kappy/Hooky/Zach might work… or not

That’s been my thinking all along. While I’ve been mentioning McTavish for months, Thomas really does fit the bill. While we wait for Hage to get in his prime, Suzuki will deteriorate. Thomas is there right now. So what are you sacrificing? Future years of Hage potentially being a star (no guarantee), having Suzuki a shadow of his current self or having two offensive and defensively capable centers now on a club that is just cracking its window open?

I give up the future years of Hage’s possibility (again not guaranteed) to fill a sorely needed spot. Having two bonafide #1 centers is needed.

People erroneously point to Edmonton and Toronto (which both had flawed rosters on the back end and in goal) while ignoring Pittsburgh and Tampa, both of which had two top centers.

We have the goalies in the pipeline. We have 3 legitimate top 4 D. We have Engstrom, Reinbacher and Pickford coming and I’m certain at least one of those three will become a very solid #4 D soon. So what are we talking about here? Shoring up the third pair? You’re seriously going to forego getting another first line center to shore up the third pairing? That’s like worrying about your muffler when you need a whole new engine.

You give up either Hage or Zharovsky for Thomas. That’s a no-brainer. That said you do not for a guy like McTavish. The return matters.

Thomas is the target.
Z you can sacrifice not Hage

If 14 slows down when his contract ends RT will also be 30 with a year left on his deal and maybe slipping a well

Team may have 2 declining assets looking to cash in and if this team isnt winning tough decisions need to be made

We havent had a Hage caliber C in the pipeline in moons , top 10 prospect in the world

We landed 53 a major priority without sacrificing a top prospect or core player
