Oh man. This hits hard. Loved Brian, such a brilliant ear for music, and tragic life story. Guess he was lucky to last this long considering his many issues, but still... Very sad news.
Fwiw, 16th Street can give y' a start - all kinds of "activities" up and down the street - check out the lyrics sometime. Lots of bars and restaurants, too, so you can sorta duck in and out. . .sorta. Met Boz one night at a bar/music joint across the street from the opera house after the ballet. Pete Escovedo and his kids and grandkids were playing. Boz sat in on one of his own tunes, Lido Shuffle, and you would have thought Mistah Scaggs was the headliner - the change was that huge in sound and style! On my way out the door, shook his hand and thanked him for his time and presence. Nice guy, kinda humble/reserved. Prob'ly shocked he didn't need fend off a "fan." Hopped a cab over to my old hockey bar in the Mish, over on 16th Street. Busy-ass night at the 'Watt. Hockey games were all done, but the music was rockin' and folks were lit. Great way to conclude an arts/humanities/rock night out: on 16th Street.
