Around the League 2019-2026 Edition

I think it's a good contract for a guy who likely tops out as an average 3c.

But yeah, if he can't hack it offensively year in year out, you're looking at a dime a dozen league min player like David Kampf. Last year eased some of those concerns, but it's just 1 year with some decent luck involved. His scoring rate was quite good tho.

40 points in 113 career games including playoffs, 29 point pace. Not great but not bad for a kid either.

Holy shit, that’s insane.

I’m not just ready to throw my hands up and accept the hyper inflation on every player. Minten basically getting the Knies deal just one year later is ridiculous. I like him and wish we kept him, but that is likely going to be a bad contract.

The term surprises me… it seems like all the risk is on the Bruins side but who am I to argue with their analytics guy

The only risk is that I don't going long on 3rd liners at real money. At least if it's a first liner, if there's a small decline he's still a very good top six forward. The difference between an average 3rd line c and a 4th line c is huge

Yep/ that’s an area where you want to maintain the cap surplus your elite players provide

Not sure if it's helpful, but here's a little breakdown of players values (based on their percentage of league-wide points), and expected cap increases:

We don’t even know if he’s a good player yet. Hes an offseason removed from being a AAAA type player. Glad we’re not taking that risk. And I liked him just fine as a prospect. He might even carve out a decent career.

yeah there's more risk here than maybe they think. his early season offense was a surprise, and it crashed pretty hard towards the end, with only 3gls/6pts in his last 27gms. Really it was one scorching hot month (January + Dec.31) where he scored 8gls/16pts in 15gms that carried his offensive production.

I do think his shot will play and make him decently productive but i'm not sure they can expect steady growth there. But then again, it's probably smart to expect some improvement from a rookie year so it's not all that bad a bet either.
