I don’t think this project was initially that mainstream. In fact A24 was prepared to scrap all the footage if this idea didn’t pan out. It was always seen as an experiment with even Nathan not knowing if Holmes would share anything interesting

That's exactly what I mean though. His ascent to becoming mainstream was entirely due to his talent and ability to put himself in captivating situations. Like with his prior projects, many of his experiments fail and are scrapped, but the ones that hit are gems. It's a numbers game, as Sunny would say!
