The Canes open a road back to back in Chicago.
The Canes picked up their first win on home ice against the dreadful Canucks on Thursday. Stankoven recorded his first NHL hat trick, Svech had 2 goals, Walker had the first 4 point game of his career. Kochetkov was his usual adventure in goal but the Canes limited the Canucks to 20 shots. Of concern is Jordan Staal’s ankle. He only took 1 shift after blocking a shot on Thursday. His line wasn’t good at all, with Vancouver scoring both their goals against that line. They didn’t practice yesterday and aren’t skating this morning, so we’ll have to wait for Brind’Amour’s presser at 4:45. I’d expect Bussi in goal, with Kochetkov going tomorrow.
The Blackhawks have won only 1 of their first 5 games. That was their only home game u til tonight when they kick off a 7 game home stand. They’re without Connor Bedard, still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. They’re also without Frank Nazar, serving the first of a 2 game suspension. They may also be missing Teuvo Teravainen, who has missed the last 2 games with a lower body injury. Nazar leads with 2 goals, there are 8 players with 1 goal each, including Patrick Kane. Young center Anton Frondell leads with 3 assists. Spencer Knight has started 3 games in goal, he’s at 3.36/.890. But he’s 4-2 lifetime against the Canes with 2 shutouts. Arvid Soderblom has started the other 2 games, he’s at 4.58/.820.
