I'm not sure I understand the hand wringing about the contract. What similar player signed for $1-2 mill this offseason? Jeannot got 5 years $3.4. Fredric got 8 years $3.8. And I would argue he is better than both if he retuns to form.
2 years ago Dom had his value at $5.4 mill. AFPs...
I like the idea of a Joshua-Roy 3rd line.
We’ve always had guys that either suck offensively and are soft (Krok/Kampf/Holmberg) or have to be sheltered heavily (Domi/Robby/McMann/Patches).
These guys can both take awful usage, come out above water possession, score 15 goals and be a pain in...
first 28 games after returning from nut cancer: 2 gls, 4 pts (82 gp, 6 gls, 12 pts)
Last 29 games; 5 gls, 10 pts (82 gp, 14 gls, 28 pts)
Last 17 gp: 3 gl, 7 pts (82 gp, 15 gls, 34 pts)
Seems like he was returning to form
DOMs (using Matthews/Maccelli/Joshuas previous season)
Knies (+9)-Matthews (+31)-Maccelli (+6)
XXX-Tavares (+14)-Willy (+13)
Joshua (+5)-Roy (-1)- Domi (-3)
Lorentz (-3)-Laughton (-1)-McMann (+1)
A lot less huge negatives than we’re used to if their bets rebound.
Knies-Matthews-Maccelli
XXX-Tavares-Willy
Joshua-Roy-Domi
Lorentz-Laughton-McMann
Has over $9 million in cap space with 6 d and the goalies.
The key will be turning that into an impact forward, and maybe D too.
If you remove his good year last year, over 2/3 years he is tied for 92nd in 5v5 ixg/60 with Kempe, Reinhart, Tuch and Bratt and 12th in hits/60. All while puttting up an even rel xGF getting buried dzone starts.
For what looks like the opposite of a nerd pickup, it’s pretty nerdy.
And that...
the positive is that contract wasn’t nearly as bad as it looked at the time. He only lasted one year and somehow they were able to trade the 3rd. For an interesting young D project.
I thought we’d still be playing him every night.
If Thrun is anything then it’s was a great deal. Tre >
That is actually pretty promising. They are only down 13 in Doms model, with $8 mill in cap space.
If they had 2 +5-6 players they are minimally down despite losing Marner.
There is lots of upside to actually get a bit better.
Especially if you are pushing out some of the worst players on...
Well yeah, when those 4 guys also don't score you have no chance.
But even if they had all time great playoff runs like McDavid/Draisaitl it’s still tough to beat the best teams that have 3 contributing lines, and also 2-3 elite forwards.
