Honestly? After training camp.
His advanced stats are all better now than in Colorado (last I checked during 4 nations), he's just got a crap shooting % right now, and his line's have had close to zero puck luck. Rants will be fine, but with the psychological mess he's likely dealing with due...
The Canes aren't terrible, nor are they fine.
Losses based upon a lack of ability wouldn't get nearly the attention that the losses they're taking are getting - those in which they simply fail to execute for 30+ minutes before coming on hard in the last 15-20 where they often end up making it...
They can't win 2 in a row right now, they're not winning a series without something changing.
They're 3-6 since February 1st, scoring a grand total of 21 goals - 12 of which came in 2 games (Buff/Utah). (1.7 goals per game)
Dumping Roslovic (not scoring), Burns (not scoring and flailing on...
I would sell at the deadline if we can get something that helps out in the near future. If you can offload any of Burns/Orlov/Roslavic (non-core pieces) etc I'd be OK with it. The team isn't going any farther than the 1st or 2nd round this year unless the hockey gods decide to play a joke on the...
The passing is too slow, decisions take too long and are often bad ones, the don't make the defense move at all, they need to get guys on the ice together in position to go forehand; there really isn't anything good you can say about it.
Everyone needs to chill on Rantanen; IMHO he doesn't sign before the trade deadline, and unless he actively says he's not signing here, then we wait until July 1. He was blindsided by a trade and everyone wants him to signn an 8 year deal with a team he barely knows and who is playing like crap...
Losing, but in green!
I'm not holding my breath until the coaching and leaders on this team make an actual (polar's word) change to anything meaningful, and that does NOT mean just blending the forwards and praying to Jobu.
At this point RBA needs to be running basic passing and skating drills, and going over positioning. They're doing the most fundamental of things poorly.
FWIW, Rantanen is seeing this team pretty much at their worst; not playing their game, not scoring, not hitting, not even making good passes.
Maybe he does run like hell, and I wouldn't blame him one bit.
Since we have some CBA knowledgeable people here, an interrogative.
When Nikishin comes over (I know this isn't assured but...) he'll be on an ELC yes? So max value is something like $3M after bonuses, etc?
I keep seeing people through out $3-5M a year for him and I didn't think that was...
