Perron to make debut for Penguins against Canadiens

By Benjamin Zweiman

CANADIENS (25-11-2) at PENGUINS (24-9-5)

TV: TVA SPORTS, CITY, ROOT

Season series: Marc-Andre Fleury made 27 saves in the Pittsburgh Penguins' 4-0 victory against the Montreal Canadiens on Nov. 18. Forward Beau Bennett had a goal and two assists. The Penguins have won eight of the past 11 games between the teams.

Canadiens team scope: Montreal won its fifth straight game Friday, a 4-2 win against the New Jersey Devils. They are tied with the Tampa Bay Lightning for first place in the Atlantic Division with 52 points. Goaltender Carey Price made 22 saves for his 200th win in his 400th career game. Price is 7-1-0 with 11 goals allowed in his past eight starts. Forward PA Parenteau left the game Friday in the second period after an open-ice hit from Devils forward Tim Sestito and did not return. No update was given on Parenteau's status for Saturday. Forward Michael Bournival scored his first two goals of the season and defenseman P.K. Subban had three assists. Montreal is 8-2-0 against Metropolitan Division teams and 17-4-1 against the Eastern Conference.

Penguins team scope: Pittsburgh acquired forward David Perron from the Edmonton Oilers on Friday for forward Rob Klinkhammer and a first-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft. Perron, 26, did not play in the Penguins' 6-3 win Friday against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He had 19 points in 38 games for the Oilers and scored 28 goals in 78 games last season. Perron gives Pittsburgh depth on the wing with Patric Hornqvist on injured reserve because of a lower-body injury. "I like to play a smart game, making plays and winning battles," Perron told the Penguins website Friday. "I focus on winning every single battle, whether it's along the wall in the D-zone and trying to get the puck out or when it's in the corner in the O-zone. I try to be physical and separate guys from the puck." Forward Steve Downie scored twice Friday after missing six games because of the mumps. With backup goalie Thomas Greiss in net Friday, Fleury likely will start. He is 17-9-3 against the Canadiens in his career despite a 3.05 goals-against average and .896 save percentage.

Well a big test tonight. Would be quite the feather in the cap if we can beat the Penguins.

Not as much as Mrs Patrol. Pens win this one 4-2.

#canadiens Carey Price, Manny Malhotra in, PA Parenteau out vs #penguins #tvasports

Hope it doesn't go to a shootout, it's the only time we'd need Parenteau.
