Auston is the first player since Lemieux in 88-89 to score 10+ goals in the first 6 games of the season. And he's doing it in this era. 60 might happen.

McDavid: ES 3.15p/60, 2.43p1/60 --- PP 5.72p/60, 3.23p1/60
Matthews: ES 3.34p/60, 2.89p1/60 -- PP 7.25p/60, 5.24p1/60

This Year plus Last Year

McDavid (22): ES 3.30p/60, 2.38p1/60 --- PP 5.29p/60, 3.37p1/60
Matthews (21): ES 3.34p/60, 2.89p1/60 -- PP 7.25p/60, 5.24p1/60

Why did Matty barely get PP time before this year again? So dumb. At least if they did it to depress his numbers and sign him to a cheaper extension last summer, but that clearly didn’t happen.

for those who don't like p/60....

This Year Plus Last Year, PPG

1. McDavid (22): 1.36 ----- ES 1.03 (17:35), PP .28 (3:00)
2. MacKinnon (23): 1.31 -- ES .90 (16:04), PP .40 (3:41)
3. Marchand (30): 1.30 --- ES .86 (14:46), PP .37 (3:00)
4. Malkin (32): 1.29 ------- ES .81 (15:14), PP .48 (3:38)
5. Giroux (30): 1.25 ------- ES .78 (16:00), PP .47 (3:33)
6. Kucherov (25): 1.23 ---- ES .80 (16:14), PP .43 (3:32)
7. Hall (27): 1.21 ---------- ES .70 (16:02), PP .50 (3:01)
8. Kessel (31): 1.15 -------- ES .64 (14:50), PP .51 (3:44)
9. Matthews (21): 1.14 ---- ES .88 (15:58), PP .26 (2:10)
10. Kuznetsov (26): 1.10 -- ES .67 (15:19), PP .42 (3:28)

1. Matthews is the youngest on the list.
2. Matthews has the 3rd best ESppg
3. Matthews has by far the least PP time - everyone else over 3mpg while he's at only 2:10 - all of them get between 40-70% more PP time than he does.

If there is a gap its not huge. Matthews belongs in the conversation. And he has the better team. These guys are judged on winning as we've seen with Sid/Ovy.

look at Phil go!

Matthews PP minutes are smaller, because they don't need to the full 2minutes to fill the net. ;)

league should go back to when you did not get to come out of the box if scored against
Heh, at the moment, I'd definitely support that.

It's unfortunate that your franchise ruined that for everybody back in the 70's.

Yeah, the Habs of old sometimes scored 2-3 times during a PP. Ruined it for everyone.

The Leafs would exploit that this year for sure.
