OT: American Politics

As hard as it is both sides need to get together and really discuss the issues for the betterment of the country. Enough of the gotcha sound bytes and the lies and deceit. I'm hoping a younger generation of conservatives manages to grab hold of the GOP and reform it. The modern conservative is more socially liberal but fiscally conservative. This is where that party needs to move to but there is no chance of that with McConnell and the other dinosaurs. Zeke is right that they aren't interested in change and just want to hold onto power through manipulation. It's a complete turnoff to an educated conservative. This country is still more centrist than right or left, there is an opportunity here to get changes made but it will never happen without dialogue. It doesn't matter which well-meaning politician tries starting one, they are shot down by others on the opposition and even in their own party. Take AOC for example, I disagree with her philosophies but she gets attacked and shot down mercilessly by the GOP and even some in her own party. Governing is compromise and you can't have compromise if you aren't even willing to listen to opposing viewpoints.

How do you fix it? Remove the binary choice that exists today. I think the younger generations are catching onto this and will somehow effectuate a change, I just don't know if I will see a meaningful change (for the better) in my lifetime. Who knows.

Hmmm.

I understand people hating on America...specifically the idea that Freedom is something they invented when the reality is it's really only been like that for white men most of the time.

Now, you can separate that from things The U.S has done well...but it's fair to remind americans of that hypocrisy.

While it’s difficult believing anything the Trump administration says, I don’t believe a word that comes out of Russia. Is there a reputable source to confirm or deny?

not sure the truth is what matters here.

what matters is that Russia is taking a public stand that the drone shooting was not an act of war, and in fact, that the drone invading iranian airspace was the act of war.

We’re not sure the US intelligence community is lying on this so I tend to lean that they’re not.

Astonishing how much has been destroyed in such a short period of time.
