OT: American Politics

Trump has no morals or ethics and he doesn't really care what those around him do. Seriously. He just doesn't ask and doesn't care. If he can get something out of them or they are of even minute use to him he will overlook anything.

well, until they piss him off. then they were always a scumbag and not a very good person. sad!

Multiple victims have come forward to accuse a New Jersey pastor of sexually assaulting them as part of exorcism rituals. “Three men have come forward claiming Rev. Dr. William Weaver performed sex acts on them when they came to him for private counseling at Linden Presbyterian Church,” Newsweek reported Thursday. “Weaver, 69, would allegedly tell the men that he needed to ‘suck’ out demons through their semen, citing Native American rituals and a verse from Ephesians telling Christians to ‘put on the full armor of God.'”

Yeah, nice thread for sure. While it's great to think that a grand vision for the future will bring people out in droves, or that this election is going to be a total cakewalk and thus the democratic primary is the true leadership race for the presidency, it's not.

I feel like that's a trap.

I mean, hit at Trump all you like, but I feel like with a progressive plan that will actually help people, the least fortunate, those with massive student debt, helping those feeling left behind as the economy transforms is the keel here.

Give people something to vote for instead of simply attacking the other guy.

I think hammering the idea that Trump is a racist, unfit for office for a year will get old fast for the average voter, who probably isn't going to be swayed by that

I think you're missing the point.

The idea is that anyone who's still in Trump's camp at this point isn't going to be swayed, period, so you're wasting your time and depressing your own vote by focusing on trying to flip those people.

Better to do everything possible to get the "anybody but Trump" voters energized to turn out in droves.

I think you're both missing the point...

The Trump bullshit is already baked in at this point, the Dems need a strong message. They're not going to get much more mileage out of conspiracy/collusion/racism/obstruction anymore. They've milked that cow anorexic. If they think they can ride that particular message to the WH then they'll cry again when Trump wins.

I dunno. They kind of just have to do the math on this.

It's all about the getting the highest possible number of people to turn out and vote for you. And are you really going to do that by beating your brains out trying to appeal to people who after everything still haven't been turned off by Trump at this point, or people like yourself that don't like Trump but under almost any circumstance would rather cut off their right arm than vote for the Democrats?

You don't need to appeal to people who haven't been turned off by trump yet.

They need to get every progressive voter who couldn't be bothered to come out and vote for the lackluster bullshit Hillary Clinton was peddling and get every voter willing to get trump out and give socialism a chance out to the polls.

The dems had the answer to trump in 2016, they just didn't pick him. They still have the answer to trump and they still might go pick biden.

Democrats need to get away from the beltway democrats types who play well in Washington and grab a hellraiser willing to fight to the end for things like healthcare, pharmacare, reducing student debt, reversing the tax cuts for the rich.

They find someone (Bernie) willing to do that and they have their winning coalition.

The anti trumpers(who would vote for the devil himself to get trump out of office so why go all out to get them?)

The establishment democrats(read above)

Those wanting something to vote for that helps them(what Hillary didn't get in 2016)

Think you just have to get back those voters who either didn't love Hillary as a candidate and voted for a third party candidate or stayed home... as well as the people who assumed she would easily win and stayed home.

A ton of people gave Donnie the benefit of the doubt last time and just decided to stay home.

The Racism will bring most of them out.

Do some of you actually think the Dems will rally under one banner? They’re not known for it so I’ll just disagree.

I have serious concerns of his re-election. It’s still way early though so there’s time.

That's the flaw. If you run on grand ideas with someone like Bernie, you're going to have a lot of moderates be skeptical and potentially stay home.

But if you reject him, and go with another option, then you risk the Bernie crowd staying home.

But whether they can find a candidate that can unit the camps, and actually choose them, that's the problem.
