OT: American Politics

I mean this most recent little tweetstorm is him basically not even pretending to not be openly racist anymore. If he ever was.

But if anyone had any doubts about him before and his view on race before, he has removed them now.

Maybe it's better that he own it and be up front about it. The real shame is how spineless the Republican party has become. Credit to Mitt Romney for being one of the few to speak up. Who would have thought the day would come where Mitt is the one to say what needs to be said.

I think it's more about winning the election. He feels there are enough racists to vote him into office so he i snow embracing it instead of the not-very-good-tiptoe-routine he was doing earlier.

No ambiguity,

eh its a feedback loop between him and Fox. they just keep one upping each other on the racism front, so they both feel fine going even further.

thing is, trump tripled down on racism in 2018, and it backfired, so i'm not sure this is good strategy this time, either.

One would hope.

I really think it's true. He keeps having to blow the dog whistle harder and harder to change the narrative when he wants attention off of something and back on his antics. There is a maximum volume on this dog whistle where it stops being a dog whistle and everyone can hear it. I don't think we're very far away from that volume tbh.

thing is he already has the racists. it's not like there's a bunch of racists that weren't sure if they were voting for him.

but "go back to your country" to some american-born brown people is something that is a bit too real for most others, I think.

I sent a currently serving Republican member of Congress text message begging him to put Trump on blast. He responded with the date of his state's primary filing deadline plus one day.

That is the Trump Republican Party in the most perfect, shity nutshell.

McConnell when pressed hard by reporters on Trump’s tweets and whether they were racist declares: “The president is not a racist.”

Karen Travers
@karentravers
.@mkraju asks McConnell about his wife, Transpo Sec Chao who immigrated to US as a child. "If someone were to say to her, she should go back to her country because of her criticism of federal policies, wouldn't you consider that a racist attack?”
McConnell doesn’t say yes or no

"We've seen the far left throw accusations of racism at everyone and anyone who disagrees with them on anything, including the speaker of the House," McConnell said, though adding that Trump and congressmembers "have a responsibility to elevate the public discourse"

Having the racists, and energizing the racists to show up at the polls are two different things though. I agree with the second bit though, I think he blew the dog whistle a bit too hard here. Normal people heard it just enough to be problematic.

Yep. Trump isn't a popular President, but he's a wildly popular Republican.

THEY SENT AN OPEN LETTER TO IRAN SAYING OBAMA DIDN'T SPEAK FOR AMERICA

Susan Rice @AmbassadorRice3m
And they secretly invited a foreign Prime Minister to address a joint session behind the back of the President to lobby Congress to oppose the Adminsitration’s policy.

I dunno, the racists already seem pretty damn energized to me.

honestly I bet you even some racists think he's gone too far.

Oh, I think you'd be disappointed there bud. Maybe they think he's gone too far in that normal people aren't supposed to catch on this easily, but in the intent of his messaging and disdain for anything but white people? **** no.

Even within the criminal system, pedophiles have a special place in hell.... IF and I repeat IF there is any evidence that Trump participated in what Epstein did (ie photos, videos) and not just testimony of the victims (because his base will never believe them) would that be the final step for the evangelicals, Fox panel members, and middle america that loves trump?

Would that be an impeachable offense? (I don't see how it can't be but I'm sure there is some rule that states that it didn't happen while in office or some other shit)

What is it that can finally turn the GOP to say... ok, we can't back that? Is pedophilia the only thing that could do that?
