GDT: Canes @ Slugs 2/7 7:00

They don't deserve to win this game. Absolutely no defense to speak of.

They'd be bagged skated after this turd....if I were coach. I don't care if they have back to backs or not.

Skinner does it again. 5-5. It sounds like they've just dropped into a shell akin to the old Paul Maurice days.

Five of the games that could affect the Canes' playoff chances have already gone into OT tonight, including their own. In other words, very little help from the peanut gallery.

Yes, Skinner still has zero interest in hustling back or playing any type of defense. He is what he is.

If you didn't notice, Tripp hammered the point home all night that Skinner is a terrible player and the trade wasn't bad after all.

I missed that, but I've been trying to get better at tuning Tripp out, so...

Besides, it's not like Pu scored for us tonight.

Grateful for a win. Exciting see-saw game. Guys need to learn to play and hold the lead. Can't keep giving up 2 goal leads - just can't. Got to button down and play hard.

Faulk was out muscled by Skinner-- can't take it away from Skinner that he was able to get that shot off.

Liked the OT-- got the win and thought the guys looked solid.

This game was weird. We played well at times, but our play in our own end was horrible. Too many second and third chances allowed. Skinner outmuscling Faulk was tough to watch, but you have to admire #53's determination and skill. Faulk was all over him, but should have taken him out and taken a penalty. Rod's first challenge was solely for the purpose of delivering a blistering rant to his team. And it worked (for awhile). Still, winning is all that matters.

Didja notice how half-assed Skinner was getting back to defend when Turbo came up with that?

Sure. Didja notice the 2 goals he scored to get the Slugs to OT in the first place? Jeffrey giveth, and he taketh away.

Brindy is probably stewing hard after that game. Yeah, the Canes gutted out the W but gave up a point and really never played "their" game. I don't think we've seen a single public display of displeasure from Roddy to top the volcanic tirade he went off on during his challenge of Buffalo's 2nd goal. Challenge used loosely, because that was timeout taken specifically so he could light his team up. They threw in the challenge part just on the off chance there was a positive outcome to be had. He did everything short of throwing the stick rack on the ice ... and I kind of wished he'd gone all the way there, just for old times' sake.

Honestly, decent showing offensively. The D pitched in some nice odd man covers and I thought the guys were pretty creative in possession. But the neutral and defensive zone play was putrid to say the least. Mack wasn't great in net either, and I think you've now seen the danger in playing old goaltenders on fairly short rest. His movement was downright creaky at times. You all but hear his knees complaining. I think it's good that they have to get right back on the horse in New York City. It probably saves them a pretty rough practice, for one thing ... but it also gives them a chance to redeem themselves a bit. And hey. It's always better to correct mistakes after wins, right? Hopefully they dial it in a bit better tonight.

But all top tier scorers play a tremendous 2 way game, except Skinner. Just ask Tripp.

Not defending Tripp here, but most of them actually do play a solid two way game these days. Skinner is a throwback to the days of the specialist player. There really aren't a lot of forwards who play it so cavalier in their own zone in the modern game.

I did. And in a game where he scored 2 goals he was -1, he was on the ice for McGinn’s goal too.

Which is always going to be a problem with him. He scored 2 goals and one of them was very impressive. But he was still -1. That’s not a great stat but in this case it is.

Too bad for 53 that he refuses to figure that out. It’s a serious flaw in his game. He has the skill set to be a truly elite hockey player instead of a truly elite goal scorer.
