I don't think it matters who is better from a Montreal perspective. They got a winger again with their biggest trade chip. WTF? They did not address any need whatsoever.
Bergevin is an idiot.

22-23

Galy: 143gms, ES (B-), 1.67p60, 1.32p160, -3.0cfr, -5.8xgfr / PP 5.81p60, 3.71p160

He's terrible.

20-21

161gms, 1.94 P/60, 1.57 P1/60, +2.87 cfr, +1.98 xgfr

Is he though? Or did Montreal just dick him around and **** him up?

You could always just admit that you were mistaken. It's not a sign of weakness or even lack of intelligence. Quite the opposite actually.

The video I posted didn't just show that he scored on a breakaway. It showed that he was skating fast. Orr was still a slug in that video.

your video showed that he had a step on 2 dmen and outskated after they turned.

Find me a single reference to Galchenyuk being slow in a scouting report or article by anyone resembling a respected source.

Corey Pronman scouting report.

all the scouting reports say the same thing - that while his top end speed was decent (6yrs and 2 knee injuries ago), skating was still his biggest weakness.

top-end straight line speed is not the most important thing.

he has poor acceleration. he can't stop/start very well. when he slows down to make a move, the speed is gone and He's standing still. he plays a slow man's game.

not sure how a habs fan is unaware of this tbh. not from watching or from old scouting reports.

quick hits from google (6yrs and 2 knee surgeries ago):

"He has good top speed as anyone you’ll find in the draft, however his first few steps are a concern."

"Galchenyuk does not possess lightning quick feet"

"Galchenyuk’s skating is an area that has been discussed a lot. "

"If he can continue to improve his skating, his style is somewhat comparable to Evgeni Malkin"

"especially since speed and skating is such a big part of his game and regarded as perhaps his lone weak point before the injury. "

"About the only aspect of his talent that I've seen questioned is his acceleration or "first-step quickness". While he's got great speed overall, his ability to go from standing still to a sprint is a bit below par"

and pro-tip: anytime you someone complimenting "top-end speed" instead of just saying "speed", they're saying there's a weakness there.

no, he is slow.even slow guys can look good in a straight line race sometimes. Galy is a standstill player.

No, he is not slow. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

This is similar to your Pleks is a second center fabrication.

Marner wasn’t so great on our fourth line either.

I don’t think Galch is a top end superstar or anything, but he could be a consistent 25 goal threat in the right environment.

This Habs team isn’t the right environment for any player. We’ll see what Galch can do for real if given the proper shot.

And I don’t foresee a smooth and successful tenure for Domi in Montreal.

He’ll be there two years tops before the stench of this disaster gets too strong and they have to trade him for picks as part of the fire sale.

How, how, how is Bergemonkey still in charge over there?? How?? It’s maddening, even for a rival fan.

Galchenyuk has been terrible the last two years, but so has Domi. Both guys haven't driven possession, or produced. Galch at least has shown the ability to create shots for himself and score on the PP. To me Galch's problem has been more mental than physical. He was always treading water in that market. I think his ceiling is higher. With some good coaching I think he can be a 2nd/3rd line center.

I love Domi's skillset, but if I am someone who care about what the Habs did this would be concerning. Because their active goal is to find a #1 center, they traded two pretty good assets to do it, and ended up targeting Domi and Drouin. Its more of the same from the Habs. A move that on its own you can wrap your head around value wise, but what exactly are you achieving? Doesn't make them better now. Doesn't fill any holes. Doesn't make them younger. It adds character and toughness though.

Although I do like the one-for-one hockey trades, and wish there were more of them so what do I know.
