OT: American Politics

There's levels to this shit. You're falling for the easy shit apparently, and blaming the Democrats for it somehow.

So we're not even going to bother looking at the veracity of the claims made on either side? Trump wants nuclear war, Pelosi wants no nuclear war, so compromise is the only way and we just have small nuclear war? C'mon man.

This issue is pure stupidity. A wall is a complete waste of money that doesn't address the issue, full stop. It's bad policy, why throw money at it, why compromise on it?

**** me you're stupid sometimes. At no point have I suggested that the other side shouldn't be heard. They should be heard right up until the point they start digging in their heels and demanding nonsense solutions to real problems. The wall is a nonsense solution to a complex problem. So why spend the money? What is the pro argument for the wall beyond "some people want it"?

Oh, ****ing spare me. Yeah, my opinion that policy should be rooted in some semblance in reality is clearly the problem, not that there are 10's of millions of people who are falling all over themselves to demand billions be spent on revenge fantasy because they get cranky every time they walk by someone speaking in spanish in 'Murica.

Compromise is essential when there are two serious ideas on the table, with a difference in opinion or ideology involved. This is not one of those situations.

No compromise on a wall? No, of course not. Again, doing something really stupid just to make idiots feel good about themselves is bad, full stop. You want compromise? Identify the problem (immigration reform), put forward real solutions to the problem, fund it as necessary. Compromise. You've completely fallen (I'm going to go with "willingly") for the horseshit language and false dichotomy being put forward by the right on this one. The positions aren't "wall" and "no wall". It's "wall" or "rational solution for the southern border".

Compromise with loons and tell me how that works out for you. Something tells me that you don't compromise with people who have nonsense ideas in your personal life. If the Republicans were advancing a rational solution for the southern border, something tells me that your country wouldn't be dealing with this. The thing telling me this is Democrats repeatedly voting for increased spending on the southern border to manage illegal immigration.

this is one of my favourite posts in a while.

I just don't get how people can look at this and say, 'but the Dems!!!!'

the wall is clearly and obviously a giant waste of money that will not do anything to tangibly improve border security. if border security was what this was really about, there would not be a fixation on a physical wall.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is already making enemies in the House Democratic Caucus — and some of its members are mounting an operation to bring the anti-establishment, democratic socialist with 2.2 million Twitter followers into the fold.

The effort, described by nearly 20 lawmakers and aides, is part carrot, part stick: Some lawmakers with ties to Ocasio-Cortez are hoping to coax her into using her star power to unite Democrats and turn her fire on Republicans. Others simultaneously warn Ocasio-Cortez is destined for a lonely, ineffectual career in Congress if she continues to treat her own party as the enemy.

“I’m sure Ms. Cortez means well, but there’s almost an outstanding rule: Don’t attack your own people,” said Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.). “We just don’t need sniping in our Democratic Caucus.”

Incumbent Democrats are most annoyed by Ocasio-Cortez’s threat to back primary opponents against members of their ranks she deems too moderate. But their frustration goes beyond that: Democratic leaders are upset that she railed against their new set of House rules on Twitter the first week of the new Congress. Rank and file are peeved that there’s a grassroots movement to try to win her a top committee post they feel she doesn’t deserve.

I have a feeling that she's going to destroy the Democrat Causus

I'm not a golfer, but I actually get it. It's kind of an awesome spiritual zen game.

What i don't get at all is golf culture. It's the goddamn worst.

I love pretty much all sports, but I never understood the golf thing.

Golf is a good way to get to know a potential client or vendor. Does the player cheat? How is their demeanor? What stories are told. You can learn a lot more from a 4 hour golf outing than an hour conference room meeting.

Plus it gets you out of the office.

Habsy will care when the next Democratic President calls a national crisis to put through common sense gun control or environmental regulations.

Why not? If a made up story like this wall is imperative, then something of real value and data to back it up can be used this way.

You're not a very smart person but like Trump says... "that's okay!".

Guns are already a national crisis, the second amendment prevents one from being called. This was actually discussed in the 90's.

There is no constitutional amendment that says you cannot put up a wall. You also neglect the fact that I don't think there is a crisis and flat out said Trump shouldn't raid the disaster fund but your blinded hatred of me keeps getting in the way. I must apologize for scarring you for what appears to be life, I will repent next time at church. May peace fall upon you and calmness rule your day.

Bothers me that cryin chuck and lyin nancy haven’t laid out a grown ups case for why the wall is silly.

So much this. Again last night Pelosi was out saying "ZERO dollars for the wall". It's the wrong message except to people like zeke and that Ditchpig guy (relax I'm teasing). Normal America that doesn't follow politics only hear $5B for a wall or nothing! $0 for a wall or nothing! and think it's stupid. 80% of people polled want enhanced border security with some component of barriers included. What they see are 3 old white people arguing like it's a mahjong game at the community pool.

Both arguments go to extremes. The middle ground is what will actually happen, more security with multiple components INCLUDING new barriers in strategic positions. This entire argument is ridiculous and really just pandering to their respective bases.

that is what we thought about trump and the GOP

With the electoral college in place AOC will not get even close to the nomination. Maybe in 40 years but I'll likely be dead by then. She's piling up the enemies, believe that.
