GDT #26: 3/12/22 @ TBL - It was the refs

Don't even need revenge here. They didn't beat us, the refs did.

Good test tho - they're not quite as good but they're still very good and they're gonna get a nice boost tonight getting Cirelli back for the first time this year. That gets them to 100% full strength now while we're still all banged up.

We're up in 4th now and a win tonight might get us into 3rd place, behind only the 2 teams that have been unsustainably scorching hot so far - Bruins and Devils.

Anyways, easy win.

well, he's stolen Hedman's PP time (and PP value).

but no surprise they've taken a big hit defensively this year.

that'll happen when you replace McDo with Bogo

Sergachev was easily their most error prone defender last year. I haven’t watched enough to see what he’s been doing this year. He still made plenty of good plays last year too.

Sergachev won't ever be a heavy lifting guy, but he's real gud. He's quickly becoming their version of Rielly. Tampa spends a lot more time at the right side of the ice when he's on.

The best defence is not having to play defence.

This is pretty much my thoughts on him. He’s good but also flawed. I guess I kinda thought he was more of a balanced guy than he is.

didn't Hedman lift Kerf's stick into his face? or am I misremembering?

It doesn't matter, the rule is the rule

High-sticking – For “high-sticking the puck”, refer to Rule 80.
A “high stick” is one which is carried above the height of the
opponent’s shoulders. Players must be in control and responsible for
their stick.
However, a player is permitted accidental contact on an
opponent if the act is committed as a normal windup or follow through
of a shooting motion, or accidental contact on the opposing center
who is bent over during the course of a face-off.

There's no provision for "but he lifted my stick into his own face". A player is to be in control of their stick at all time other than the exceptions noted.

It was the right call and Kerfoot is a terrible, shitty, small, weak, bitch of a hockey player that we should have fired out of a fucking cannon.

Also

Nick Paul has 18 points in 23 games this season, and he makes 350K less than Kerfoot. Now has 32 points in 44 games as a Lightning.

Also, not a soft, weak, terrible bitch of a hockey player.

People scoffed at the Paul signing but so far so good

Only thing I’ll say re: reffing is that it sure is pretty fucking Leafy to be one of the least penalized teams all year and the most in the first round of the playoffs.

Some of it was self inflicted, definitely, but it sure seemed like the super stingy “that’s playoff officiating/you don’t get calls in the playoffs!!” stuff we’re used to seeing was not really a thing for us.

It was clearly a bullshit call and everyone knows it.

ME has been so wrong about the Leafs this year he's desperately holding on to his least wrong take.
