GDT #28: 8/12/22 - Tough Stretch Incoming

And by tough stretch I mean easy stretch which means tough stretch for our Leafs.

only 1 of the next 11gms against a current top-10 team, and that 1 is in 10th. Leafs all alone in 3rd place right now and if we want to close in on BOS/NJ now's the time.

Brodie back, so really only down one spot now. Keefe has a challenge getting him back in there with both top pairs looking good right now. He starts with Timmins but I doubt he stays there.

Malgin also back in thankfully, though Keefe says Simmonds is playing Saturday.....would be cool if Malgin could play well enough that ZAR might be the one coming out for Wayne instead.

Leafs are in 4th place, not 3rd. Try to keep up.

This isn't baseball. Standings placement is by points, not winning percentage.

this debate is setting up to be as riveting as the great tavares yay or nay GDT discussion between ME and LoF

(So has the NHL)
Each year, the team with the NHL best regular-season record receives the Presidents' Trophy.

The definition of best NHL record is the team with the most points; in the case of a tie, the Presidents' cup for hockey goes to the team with the most regular-season wins.

The definition of best NHL record is the team with the most points

after 82 games

All teams play 82 games. Until they play 82 games, the best way to evaluate is point percentage.

When all teams have played the same amount of games, then Points and Points Percentage are identical and say the same thing.

When teams have played a different amount of games, then points and points percentage are different.

So what does the NHL do in EVERY situation where standings need to be determined when teams have played different amounts of games?

We have 2 clear examples:

1. In-season waiver wire order, determined by reverse order of standings.

2. Shortened seasons where all games cannot be played, such as the covid shortened 19-20 Season.

So what does/did the NHL use in these 2 situations?

Refer to the rulebook if necessary.

Read this carefully and slowly

The definition of best NHL record is the team with the most points.
There is no other definition of standings other than the most points at any time during the season

None

Especially whatever bullshit that you make up.
