OK. Here we go.

You know the matchup details, so this is literally just a thread starter. Carolina flew up to DC yesterday and will get in a morning skate in the Phone Booth today. Mrazek is expected to go tonight, and we can get any line updates from the media covering Carolina. Cal de Haan is out, with Fleury still covering for him. His physicality will be tested tonight, I’d think. In fact, I expect Washington to come out hard and see what Carolina’s got in general. Absorb that opening salvo without too much damage and this game should settle into something very familiar given that the two teams played twice in the last 2 weeks of the season. It would be nice to grab a lead early, but don’t get too hung up on that. It’s more important that you don’t let one goal deficits turn into two goal deficits.

Now, go and take it shift at a time. It’s going to take a minute for the Canes to get to playoff speed, so keep it simple early. This is a tough ask, but not an impossible one. And remember ... what they need is a split in DC. Losing game one isn’t the end of the world.

Gotta win one up there in order to win the series; might as well do it tonight.

Last night, 3 of the 5 road/lower-seed teams won their game #1, along with what is widely considered a series-underdog higher-seed in NYI. So, no "wild card" vs. "defending champs" crap; that stuff doesn't carry any water anymore -- go do your thing and win the game.

The Caps talking heads were saying they expect Kuznetsov to babysit Aho all night. I wouldn't expect anything less. High hockey IQ, meet high hockey IQ. High skill meet high skill.

It's a great time to break our losing streak against the Caps. Actually, it's the best time. Go do it, Canes!

Just for the record, I have the Caps winning game 7 after Carolina makes come back to win game 6. You heard it here first. :)

If we're gonna steal a game 1 on the road, we better give Ronnie Franchise a call and get him suited up.

Read on a Sara Civian Q&A thread today that de Haan made the trip and skated, although he won't be playing. That at least sounds a lot more positive than I thought.

Where can I stream this game? NHL.TV will only sell to folks outside the US $10 per game. if in the US you'd better not have cut the chord from dish or cable or you have to hack in somehow. Any ideas?

Ferland for interference... this isn't particularly enjoyable so far.

Kicking our collective (Polar's word)s.

I'm considering going to the radio feed just so I don't have to watch... although then I have to hear Tripp.

How do you not hear him on TV? Sounds like a good trick to know.

I'm watching USA.

Yet another Penalty Kill. Hey, they actually killed it.

Now they get the power play. No shorties, please...
